Default Help buying motor and speed control

just bought a 2001 ez-go 36 volt cart. I want to change the set up and need some help on what to buy. I think i want to convert to 48 volts??? but do not know what motor and speed controller to buy. Is there anything else i need to to go along with these upgrades besides the batteries? Any recommendations for what to buy and where to buy would be greatly appreciated
thanks j

First you need to know which drive system you have. Toggle switch on the dash is a PDS cart. Shift lever by your knee is a series cart.
There are subtle differences between the two drive systems. But the major components of an upgrade are the same. The speed controller and the solenoid need to be increased in capacity. The cables which are the amperage delivery system also need to be bigger. Take a look at this chart and see which system you have.

jmagic, I am in a similar situation. I have a 2001 TXT DCS cart with the F/R switch by my calfs at work and am thinking about turning it into my own cart. I'd like to make it look better and drive faster. I'm looking forward to the responses on this thread. I don't need a $5000 cart but I'd like to have something better looking than it is is now in stock form.

If it is a 2001 and the F/R is by your knee, I'm pretty sure it is a Series cart (Meaning it has a series wound motor)
Does it have a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover?
If not is is a Series cart.
If it does, it is half breed PDS. (DCS type r/f switch with PDS type controller)

Plug your serial number into this site and it'll tell you what it was when it left the factory.
