Default 500 amp alltrax controller on stock motor?

I have a chance to buy a used alltrax 500 amp (AXE 4855) controller, 400/1000 amp solenoid from a guy I know. Is it ok to run this on a stock 36 volt series motor or should I program it down to 400 amps? My cart already has all 2 ga cables and I just ordered a heavy duty F/R cam from Scottyb. Is there anything else I need to do to get the most out of this set up with the stock motor?

Send the motor off to Plum Quick for a rewind.

I actually have an email in to PQ right now asking about that. I have a spare motor laying around so it's not that big of a deal if I smoke one of them I guess.

If you get the Alltrax controller, PQ is going to tell you to leave the controller in stock settings, no turbo etc, talk to them about it and ask questions.

I currently have mine set for 80%, but I've been driving around monitoring my motor temperature long enough that I'm planning on slowly ratcheting mine up to 100%. However, I have motor temperature warning and danger lights on my Ex-Ray, in case I get carried away one night. It really all depends on how many hills you have, how steep they are, and if your motor has time to cool down between those hills. Also a factor are number of passengers and their weight.

500 amps is only a 2 minute rating anyway, so your controller will also get mad if you get too crazy.

The old rule of thumb is 400 amps max on a stock motor. I have been ratcheting them up without problems.
If you choose to run it at 100% then you are responsible to give the motor a break when you're driving.
If you feel you (or your kids?) can not back off the throttle down a straight away or otherwise limit use of full throttle then turning it down is the best answer.

I read the 4855 manual, but didn't see an answer. If someone were to ignore the 500 amp 2 minute rating, and drive it until the controller gets too hot, does it go into power reduction mode, or simply shut down? I see it has an error code for over temp, so I'm guessing it just shuts down until it's cooled off.

Thanks for the replies. I will not be doing any extreme off-roading, just driving around the deer lease mostly on established roads. There are some pretty steep inclines but nothing that I would be crawling up for long periods. I don't allow the kid on the cart so that will not be an issue. He has his own 4 wheeler. I just mainly want to get the max I can out of this set up when I eventually install a rear seat or cargo box.

Scottyb... I ordered the battery meter, switch plate and then later remembered I needed the heavy duty f/r cam and ordered it. If you have not shipped them yet just throw them all in the same box.

Thanks
