1998 EZGO Project - Please Help
Hey guys, first post. I've spent the last few days reading and researching. A lot of good info here. I'm afraid I need more.
I just bought my first cart. It is a 1998 EZGo. I think it is the TXT but I'm not 100%. It has the Sepex Motor best I can tell by the sticky diagram. Here is my goal with this cart: I want something that I can put around the neighborhood and also take turkey hunting. It won't face much mud but will face some steep hills. I would like as much speed as practical. 25 MPH would be ideal. The cart has no batteries at this time so I am starting clean. I need help with a detailed step by step procedure to getting to my goal of a hunting buggy. I'll need batteries, cables, perhaps a controller, lift, and tires and whatever else ya'll tell me. |

You are where I was a couple months ago. The best advise I can give you is 1. pay attention to what these guys say. They know of what they speak. 2. strip it down to the frame and replace anything that is or appears could be worn. Bigger tires etc will put more stress on everything. Best not to find out you should have replaced something when you're two miles from your camp. 3. Pay attention to what these guys say. They know of what they speak. 4. Plan on going heavy duty on everything, wires, cables, controller, F&R switch, batteries. All of it.

Rebelman,
Sounds like you hunt similar terrain as I do in Coffee County. I put some lift on my cart and went with 23" tires. Like I said on the other forum, I went 48V's also. My experience tells me that if you want to lift your cart and go with bigger tires, your gonna need to go 48V(hills killed my cart when lifted and 36V). If you stay stock then you will be good with 36V. Depending on your road condition you may be fine leaving it stock(a buddy of mine left his Club Car stock so he can use it on the golf course too. It does fine for him where he hunts). Another thing to consider is that you can really spend alot of money quick if you're not careful. I would recommend that you decide what you want your cart to do, then use the advice of ScottieB and the others on this forum to plan what mods you need to accomplish that. Compare that to your budget and do what you can when you can. Good luck. Your gonna have fun tinkering with your cart tricking it out. Let me know if I can help. |

25 mph is no problem for a PDS cart on big tires with a simple controller upgrade package and cable set. Even on 36v it will do pretty good. But if you add a rear seat and 3 buddies you may want to go to 48v. That will increase both speed and torque but I recommend you go with an aftermarket 10hp torque motor to handle the load. Scottyb

Thanks Scotty! I was hoping you would respond.
So are you recommending your Pkg. #505DCS? (400amp Alltrax (DCX400) 36-48v programmable 200a continuous/800a peak Solenoid in 36 or 48 volt) When you say big tires, how big? |
