Default May buy a 2002 electric ezgo cart

I am new to the electric cart world. I hope I am posting in the correct area. The cart in question is a 2002 ezgo. New charger, batteries are good and it looks to be in good shape. I have a
few questions. First how do I tell the series? I have seen a lot of different types. All I know is it is a 2002 36 volt.
The guy also mentioned some type of switch on the dash that is suppose to make it more powerful when used.
I don't know anything about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WhaT kind kinds of things will tell me the series? And what am I looking Is 1400 fair?

Sorry no pictires now. A good 2002 with good batteries and new charger. What do u think it's worth? Is 1400 too steep?

1400 is a real good price.
Good batteries could be good for 30 days or 3 years? Can we get some more info? 2010 Trojan T105? T605?

Batteries are the single most costly replaceable part in the cart..... 'good batteries' leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Figure out which drive system you have with the cart below... print it and take it with you.

Easier then trying to use the above doc, as most likely the controller will be under cover and not visible, is to enter the address below into your smartphone (hopefully you have one)

http://www.shopezgo.com/customer-ser...ialNumber.html

Enter the serial number from the cart into the web site and it will tell you year and model of the cart. The serial number on a 2002 should be on a metal plate inside the passenger glove box.

Good luck.

Great advice! What are the different series of carts they produced in 2002?
And what are the basic differences?
Yes I do have a smartphone and will be using your ideas.
I am sure the guy I am buying it from probably knows what series it is. I just didn't know enough about it when I spoke with him last.
I realize how expensive batteries are, I actually priced them with a friend who runs a battery business (he can give them to me at cost, 67-70 a battery).
So if 1400 is a good price I can replace batteries for under $400. All I know is they are Trojans in it right now.

When I buy a cart I check the following:

1. Have them charge the cart so when you get there you can ride it at full charge.
2. While riding it listen for any noises, wobbles, rattles etc.
3. Look under the cart for any rust and make sure the cart sits level (not leaning to one side)
4. Bring a load tester and test each battery
5. Batteries are usually stamped with a manufacturing date (Trojans usually have the stamp on the post). Usually a letter followed by a number. The letter corresponds to the month (a=January, b=February etc) and the number is the year. If you're looking at 3+ year old batteries consider them dead as they could go at any time.
6. Open the batteries and check the water level. Exposed Plates usually means the owner wasn't taking good care of the batteries and shorter life should be expected.
7. The two types of ezgos you'll probably run into will be the TXT (most common) and the PDS. Both are good, the PDS has a programmable controller and demands more money.

$1400 is fair for a good cart with decent batteries but nobody is more negotiable then when you're standing in their driveway with cash and a trailer.

Good luck.

More good advice. I am gonna check. Possibly a PDS because he mentioned a switch it has in the dash that can be programmed.

TXT is a body style. (Marathon -> Medalist -> TXT)

PDS is a drive Type. (Resistor, Series, DCS, PDS and AC are drive systems)

As for expense, it depends on what you want to do.
For example, with a PDS you can up the speed from 13.5MPH to 19Mph for about $10. (Freedom Chip)
Doing same with a Series cart (series wound motor) will cost you several hundred dollars. (Tall tires or higher voltage or high speed differential gears or high speed motor)

Want to upgrade to heavier gauge cables? Series cart has 13 while PDS cart only has 10. (When not on sale, $269 for a complete set of premium 2Ga cables for series cart, vs $219 for PDS.)

Need a need F/R switch? About $150 for a series cart. About $20 for a PDS.

Granted, PDS type controllers cost more, but only about 10% on a $500 item.

Joshing aside, if you are going to do much of anything other than drive on groomed cart trails on golf courses, you'll be spending a chunk of change on either type drive system.

What would the higher gauge battery cables give me?

Any resistance in the cables (or anywhere else in the high current circuit) steals Amps that should be going to motor and converts them to heat.

A 2002 cart probably has 6Ga cables and they are 10 years old, so unless they were exceptionally well cared for, they are probably corrosion impregnated at the ends.

Cart motors draw a lot of current, about 50-75 cruising and 300 or more while accelerating and/or climbing inclines. (Max Amps depends on controller. Stock controller range from about 250A to 350A and your wallet is the limit for the aftermarket ones.) Bigger cables probably won't give you any more speed, but you might notice a little more torque.
