Default Replacing spindle bronze bearing

OK, I have a 1991 EZGO electric without front brakes and I need to replace the kingpin bearings in the passenger side spindle. I have done a lot of searches on how to replace the kingpin bearing (bronze bushing) and I have a few questions.

First, I have been unable to find anything on this board on how to replace the bearing. I did find a post from roady89 on replacing something similar in this post http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ering-box.html but he said (unless I misread his post) that he welded the inner bearing, let it cool down, and then knocked it out. Since this is bronze, did he really mean welding as in MIG or similar or did he mean brazing or soldering which is what you would normally use on bronze? Has anyone actually replaced one of these or can you direct me to a post that describes the process, hopefully with pictures?

Next, on page Q1 and Q2 of the 89-91 EZGO Parts PDF, I find the bronze bearing as part number 16623-G1 and when I looked it up on the EZGO’s web site http://www.shopezgo.com/products/Bronze-Bearing.html , the last sentence states that this “is used on the front spindle area ONLY for vehicles with front hydraulic”. Well mine is a 1991 electric without any brakes on the front so my question is this. Is this the part that I need to order or is it something else?

I have included a few pictures of what I have. In the pictue on the left, the driver side is on the left and the passenger side is on the right. I would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance. John

Default Re: Replacing spindle bronze bearing - Update

OK, I called a friend / auto mechanic on the phone today and described what I was trying to do and asked for any suggestions. He said for me to try (and very carefully) run a hack saw blade through the bushings, reconnect it to the hack saw and evenly and carefully saw through the bushing only. I did this going very slowly and stopping frequently to check my progress and to make sure that I was sawing evenly one end to the other. When it looked like I was almost through, I used a medium sized metal punch to drive out the old bushings. I then used a wheel cylinder hone to clean up the inside of the spindle bore and it is now ready for the new bushings. John

That's the way I removed the big bronze bushing on the steering housing.
