Replacing Bearings on Input Shaft?
How do you know if the bearings need replacement? They feel exceptionally smooth and have no noticeable play.
If required, what is the best way to remove the old and reinstall new bearings on this shaft? I removed this shaft to change the O-ring that has leaked by and loaded the motor with oil. It is on a 1999 TXT. |

A vise, a split bearing puller, a chunk of wooden broom handle and a rubber mallet. That should get it all done for you.

Yep. Easy to "beat off". I replace bearings every time I tear something apart, especially if they're decades old.

Re: Replacing Bearings on Input Shaft?
Thanks gang! Bearings ordered and will install this weekend. Also have some double lip, quad Buna-N o-rings en-route to try. They are supposed to seal better than standard round ones. If I can get the bearing to pass it I'll let everyone know how they work.

Re: Replacing Bearings on Input Shaft?
I think this style ring would have worked but the one I purchased was a diameter too large and would not fit. I did use a light coat of black, oil proof silicone gasket material in the race to help seal the fit. No visible leak so far.
