The controller limits the amperage itself. That's what it's there for.

Right..., and the only way to determine if you are supplying and getting the maximum output is to put a current meter in series with the supply, or after the controller, and read what you are giving/getting from the controller.

The maximum current ratings of these components are determined through sustained use and environmental testing. This is not to say that we cannot push the envelope to squeeze a little more than what they are rated for. Under "normal" use conditions we have operating/user parameters. From what I have seen on this site, we have a bunch guys trying to figure out how to fix their stuff, while at the same time make it do more than originally intended. Personally, I'm in the "more" category.

Thus is the nature of "man!" We beat on it and paint it until it looks good, or we pay someone else to do the beating and painting for us.
