1992 Marathon EZGo Upgrade
Bacause of this site, I have decided to KEEP this old cart that I received in leiu of payment from a dead beat customer and make it a "house to lake" transporter. THANKS for everyone's input!!. 1995 Marathon Serial 712503 that sat unused 5 years. Will be used going up and down a hill 300 yards @ 5 - 6 trips per day. 36 volt system, series motor. I want better brakes (stay out of lake) and more pulling power(torque), better traction, possibly lower weight re 3 @ 12 volt or 5 @ 8 volt vs 6 @ 6Volt batteries. Drive distances are 1/2 to 1 mile max/ day. Considering 2 ga wire, HD(500Amp) FNR and controller.

The highest ampacity deep cycle 12V battery commonly used in golf carts is only about 150AH (T-1275)while the standard 6V (T-105) is 225AH. Mathematically, that is a 1/3 reduction in available amps and due to the Peukert effect, it will be an even greater reduction. Going with 5x8v using the highest ampacity 8V battery (T-890) will only be a 15% reduction, which will be partially offset by the 10% gain in voltage, but finding a solenoid and controller that works well at 40V may be a challenge. Going 6x8V for 48V would be better for speed and torque, but you would still have about the same weight in batteries. |
