How should charger work?
I just got a 91 ezgo marathon. Came with a total charge 3 battery charger. When I initially plugged in the cord the needle jumped up to about 20. After it charged over night it dropped down to almost 0. I guess I don't know how to read the gauge or how long it's suppose to take to charge... Any insight?

Re: How should charger work?
That's about right. Mine used to start at 15-17 amps after a workday. When it stops humming, it's done.

Quote:
How long it takes to charge depends on several factors, but how deeply discharged the batteries were when placed on charge is the biggy. The first charge for new batteries can take 12-18 hours, but after they are broken in, 4-6 hours is more typical. For maximum battery life, you want to keep your batteries charged as high as possible and/or practical. If you use you cart during the day, put it on charge that night. Here is a link to some good battery charging info: (While there, read everything with the word "Battery: in title.) http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter..._Tutorial.html Here's a quick check to see if your TC-III is working right: Plug charger into wall outlet, then plug charger cable into cart. After a 3-5 second delay, the charger will start to hum and the Ammeter will jump up to 15-20 Amps. If it turns on the moment you plug the cable into the cart, the relay inside the charger has been bypassed and the charger won't turn off automatically when battery is charged. (You said the ammeter was reading almost zero the next morning, so I suspect this might have been done. Was transformer still Humming?) I posted a owner/service/parts manual in this thread, so you can download it there: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...st-clicks.html |
