Default New Quick Charge charger is in!!!

Called the guys at Quick Charge yesterday morning and inquired about getting the on board 48v/25amp charger shipped so I could have it today. Turns out they don't stock it but John said for me to just place my order online and he would build one and ship it out overnight to me. FedEx was here today and just like that, instant charger.

It is a transformer style charger. It weighs 40 lbs!!! The charger is rated to charge the batteries to 60 volts and then go into a 52.4 volt float mode.

Here she is...

I had already removed the junk ProTech from the space where we had mounted it right in front of the controller. Quick Charge was nice enough to publish dimensional drawings on their website so I knew that the charger would not simply bolt down in the spot that the other on came from.

I fabbed a mounting plate from some 1/8" diamond plate and cut it to fit the space...

Used a bit of automotive door edge guard to make sure that the wiring for the controller would not wear on the cut out in the plate....

And here is the plate installed waiting on the charger...

And here is the new charger all bolted up and ready to rock....

Looks like it grew ther. It is a tight fit but it does fit. My initial impression is good. It actually pushed the batteries to 60.5 volts before I had to unplug it and shove the cart in the trailer to get ready for the trip.

I'll report back as I see how it does.

Thanks guys! I am super interested in seeing how the higher amp charger does compared to what I did have. I've never seen these batteries settle out at more than about 85%. Even the 10 amp Shumacher charger that I borrowed from JD Sharp seemed to get them to retain about 90% charge. I'd love to see them actually hold a full charge. We will soon see.

Great looking installation.

Try recharging after short trips and initiating charges on "Fully" charged batteries.

Initial report after a week of charging with the new charger is very encouraging to me. As I preveiously stated, ever since I built the cart, the batteries would settle out to only about 50.1v or 50.2v using the ProTech charger. Now after charging several times at the cart event last weekend and charging and stettling and charging again after I got home, they are settling out on 50.7v to 50.8v now. I'm super happy with these results and I feel like they will get even better as I continue with the new charger.

A good charger makes a lot of difference. Batteries are holding the charge much better and the cart just ran 42.2 mph on my street. Would never get over 41.5 mph with the windshield in it before. Now I'm going to have to take the windshield back out and do a test run just to see how fast it'll go now. Maybe she'll do 45!

I'm sold on the Quick Charge chargers!!

Nice looking install Terry. Do you mind me asking what other mods you have on your cart that has allowed you to reach those impressive speeds? Much thanks.
