Saving a 94 Medalist
The story behind this cart is that my father in law found it in the woods on some land he bought. He charged two batteries at the time wit ha regular battery charger, and let the neighbor kids drive it. Well, one day the kids werent paying attention and ran into a tree, and it looks like they ran into a tree a few times. SO the front end is a little jacked up. After sitting in his garage for a while I asked for it and he gave it to me. This is what it looks like...
So I have begun trying to fix some things, and build it to fit my needs. I am not a golfer, but have lots of land to ride on, and always need something to help with yard work. SO the first thing I have done is pull of the leaf springs, and this is what I found I also noticed that the bottom shock mounts were bent, so a little heat, and that was fixed, but I need to replace the shocks, and would like to go with coilovers. I have also replaced all the battery cables with 2 GA. wire since I had some laying around. I still have to do the main power and ground wires that leave the batteries, and the controller wires. I plan on lifting the cart, and putting a utility bed on the rear instead of the golf bag support, and replacing the leaf springs with Heavy Duty ones on the front and rear. Here is a picture I got while messing with the cart yesterday... So this is going to be where I will update my progress, and place most questions to keep everything organized. I also just found out I cant post pictures for 7 days, so I will update this post when my 7 days are up. |

Re: Saving a 94 Medalist
I would also like to know what it would take to put a cargo bed on the back? A friend of mine has a cargo bed off a 96 ez go. And is pretty sure it will fit all ez go models after 96 excluding workhorse. Would it work on mine? I noticed if the golf cart bag rack was removed I will lose the back rest as well.

The bed's mounting rails should have a provision for relocating the seat back. The biggest X-factor is getting the roof struts to marry to the new mounting. Sometimes it takes a bit of creative engineering. I'll have to take some pics of the bed mount tomorrow.

Re: Saving a 94 Medalist
Wow. I looked over some pages. Maybe when I have some time I can read through it all. I am sure there is lots of useful information. I am honestly doing the cheap stuff right now on mine first. It runs, but the steering was all messed up and didn't sit level in the front. And my next biggest concern is the speed. I want to got the 20+ mph people are doing not 10 and below like I have now. Increasing the cable size from 6 Ga. To 4 helped a little, but since I have the leaf springs off right now I havent had a chance to see if the 2 Ga. Made a difference.

Re: Saving a 94 Medalist
Thanks for the tip. I will add those pictures into my original post when I can to keep it a little easier to follow. Keep in mind I am a college student with a part time job during the school year and full time over the summer. So I don't have lots of money but I make ends meet. I have had this cart for about 6 months, but just rode it like it was until recently. I sold my toy (86 Pontiac Fiero) so now I can devote my time to this cart. Ha. I live in the country with planted fields on three sides of my yard, and tons of trails. I also have 8 pecan trees in my yard so I am always picking up sticks. So I am trying to make this cart fit my uses. I like to do joy rides but also like to use it for work.
