48v controller bypass straight to a 36v motor?
I actually have a Yamaha cart, but I think this question is fairly universal (and the Yamaha electric section is a ghost town). I'm putting it here because I also have a 36v EZGO motor I could use(?) if the Yamaha wouldn't handle it.
I've got a 36v cart, (toaster/coil type controller and an older non-regen motor). As with everyone else, I want to go faster. I don't want to have to get a controller and all that jazz. So I have a silly idea, and I'm wondering if it will actually work with relatively little harm to the motor for the next year or two: I'm wondering, why not get two more 6v batteries, add a 48v solenoid to a switch and place a fairly stout momentary push-button under the accelerator pedal stop so that if I floor it and the solenoid is tripped, I put 48 volts straight to the motor? I don't see any reason it wouldn't work well other than if the motor can't take the extra juice. Anyone have any experience with these motors running 48v? Anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work as expected? |

Re: 48v controller bypass straight to a 36v motor?
 at what exactly?
Hypothetically, if my cart was 48v, the last step in the mechanical controller would send 48v to the solenoid and off to the motor. What I'm proposing is not so different except the last step isn't part of the mechanical controller, it's a separate button. If it's a bad idea, why is it a bad idea? If there's something I'm not considering (do I need a diode to make sure I'm not feeding back the 48v series to the 36v series in parallel), or a part I need that I haven't thought of (a 3 way solenoid to cut the 36v power when the 48v is switched on?), then I would love to know. Rather than being condescending so you can make yourself laugh, Perhaps you could provide some meaningful input to the conversation? |

If your solenoid locks up how would you stop the cart? Not even worrying about if this is even possible. And don't say the brakes! There is a reason you can't press the gas and brakes at the same time.

here' you go , but i don't think your cart has a controller, sounds like you have a resistor cart, but i'm not sure , it's a yamaha
