Default 16 mph with 48v conversion, is this as fast as i can get.

94 marathon , alltrax 300 amp controller, series cart, added two 6v and 48 v solenoid , rewired with 4 GA. I was getting 11 or 12 on flat ground now I get 16. I have stock tires and wheels. Will I benefit from cleaning and changing motor brushes. I am pleased but expected 20mph. Bigger controller, will bigger tires help. What are your thoughts. Thanks

Mine had a 500 amp controller, 2 ga cables, D&D motor, 8-6 volt batteries and 22" tires and it would 19-20mph on flat pavement. 16 is not bad for what you have.

Two ways to get speed from a series cart. 1. speed is a function of voltage. the more volts you apply, the faster it goes. 2. change the motor. once we have the voltage where we want.(48 volts) the only other option is changing the motor. I would call Plum Quick, they are a site sponsor. Those guys can rebuild your motor for speed or get you a new one if necessary. the motor controller on series vehicles has little bearing over the speed of the car. It will provide you with extra torque only. Torque is a function of amperage. the greater amps, the higher torque available for the motor.

yeah i have the stock motor, i dont really need any more torque right now it will go up any hills just slows down a little if wide open but as far as climbing slow it will go up hills in the woods fine. do the bigger controllers just start off harder or do they keep more torque even at wide open throttle. i am going to get new tires and wheels probably 22 on 10 inch rims. i thought i read a thread where someone put new brushes in stock motor which i know how to do and got some power back, but i dont want to do it for nothing.
