2007 ezgo series - new purchase

Hello guys and gals - I recently purchased another cart, I have 2 already so this makes number 3, my question is concerning the operation of this cart as it is NOT a PDS cart. It goes crazy fast down hill (25mph) but uphill is slow but steady and strong. Is this a typical behavior of this model of cart or do I have a controller problem? The batteries seem good I have been driving daily for 4 days on the first charge so I assume the batteries are ok. It's a 36 volt cart. I would much more prefer a steady speed with some downhill control over the speed and uphill power and maintain speed. Where do I start?

Guys - I have been reading here tonight and found some good starting info, the things I found , I have already done, battery cables are clean, tight, and everything is corrosion clear, I have taken the covers off the controller and checked it out and all looks good there too, this cart came fresh from a golf course and is completely stock, maybe this is just the way the txt series cars are ?

Unlike a PDS carts, series carts are not speed limited by the controller to about 20MPH going downhill.
(That's in the Freedom mode, max downhill speed is lower in the other PDS modes)
PDS carts with aftermarket controllers that eliminate regen braking share the downhill runaway problem with series carts.

Since PDS controllers also limit top speed on level ground, they tend to have a more consistent speeds on inclines.
Of course, once the controller is allowing the motor to draw all available amps, a PDS cart will slow down on an incline like a series cart does.

Your statement that you've driven daily for four days without recharging, is troubling.
Lead-acid batteries have no memory, so they do not have to be discharged to some arbitrary point before recharging.
In fact, the opposite is true. The higher the average State of Charge maintained, the longer the battery's life expectancy.

If you don't already have them, here is a Voltage vs SoC chart, and a SoC vs Life expectancy chart.
(Note: Voltage readings are taken 12 hours after charger automatically shuts off)

The stock series Ezgo controller has a 275 amp limit, most of the guys here are running 400 and 500 amp speed controls on that cart.
More amperage = more torque which helps that hill problem.

Scotty, how do you know if you have a 400 amp controller? I just traded carts at Grams in Myrtle Beach and in part of the deal was they put a 400 amp controller in and I was wondering how I could check to make sure it is? I know it is a Curtis and on the back of the controller it had 400 looked to be wrote on it. I am not hich-jackin this thread..

Thanks for getting back to me guys, I have decided to put this cart on the market and look for a PDS model instead, JohnnieB - thanks for the charts, I saved a copy of them for my file.
