txt motor heat questions
I recently bought a 2009 txt pds. It has j11(october2011) us general 2200 batteries in it. I have got it lifted, 23" tires on 12" wheels, rear seat, paint, etc. First time riding with four passengers I rode it quite a long way (about 600lbs of passengers). All of the sudden it lost power. From messing with electric rc cars it crossed my mind that there was probably a temp cutoff on it.. I doubt the batteries died, I have a meter on it and was only down one bar. It hasn't ever moved off of full really.after the guys got off it moved with the girls in it. I guess my question is do they have thermal protection? I have the speed chip installed, but now with the lift do I need the torque chip? My first cart and I've only had it two weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: txt motor heat questions
Speed chip does take away some of your torque...for a cart thats hauling that much weight i would def switch to torque chip, also is your digital meter hooked to key switch or on all the time, because those dont show true voltage until 22 minutes after they come on so that could explain why you thought it may have been charged and it may have not.

Re: txt motor heat questions
Welcome to BGW!
It is tire height, not lift, that's an issue. Put controller into diagnostic mode and the beep code will tell you why it is shutting down. However, with tires 28% larger in diameter than it is designed for, I'm surprised it doesn't go into thermal overload with just driver on-board. There is no "Torque" chip. The four PDS modes vary in top speed and amount of regenerative braking. To get more torque, you need to allow the motor to draw more Amps and to do that you need a controller that passes more current. (IE: 400 or more rather than the stock 300 or less.) In "Freedom" mode, the 23" tires will give you a max speed around 23MPH vs 18MPH with the stock height (18") tires, but you loose 28% of the normal torque. Also, I suggest the bar graph type SoC meter be replaced with the DVM type so you actually know what the battery pack voltage is. |

Re: txt motor heat questions
Thanks for the info. I should have went with the digital readout, but I figured the bar type would be easier for my wife. I wired it to stay on. So the yellow jumpers wouldn't help out any? Would more amps not equal more heat? It never got weak just shut down and would barely creep until the weight got off of it. Like I said I've only been into carts for two weeks. Mainly just ride around a campground with it. They wouldn't let me bring my Rzr. I don't really want to go crazy on performance stuff on this, but don't want any more problems.

Re: txt motor heat questions
To clarify...I believe he was referring to a "torque chip" as this :
Personality Plug - Steep Hill The Personality Plug for your E-Z-GO Vehicle allows you the freedom to change the operational drive features of your vehicle for enhanced strength to manage steep hills when driving on varied terrain. Enjoy enhanced handling during vehicle use with this plug in conjunction with a PDS (Precision Drive System) Controller. |

Re: txt motor heat questions
Nah as Johnnie stated this wouldn't really help with your heating issue...that controller simply wasnt designed to be on a lifted cart with huge tires and hauling that much weight...Only way to defeat this is go with a larger controller.

Re: txt motor heat questions
Next question, if I only carry that load 5% of the time, does that justify spending $400 on it? This is just a campground cart. I guess I'm wanting to know, is the speed chip making it worse? I'm gonna guess it went about 4-5 miles before it kicked out. You have to haul your crap tank a mile down the road to the dump station. If I can make that trip I would be alright. I guess I was testing the limits yesterday.
