1996 Ez go electric motor won't move
put new motor and refurbished controller in and now motor won't turn. Have done all volt tests to the 10 pin harness. I have voltage on b+ and b- when cart is on run and even when b+ is unhooked from the solenoid. Any one have any ideas?

Does the solenoid click when you try to go?

Re: 1996 Ez go electric motor won't move
Welcome to BGW!
Identifying the body style and drive type along with the year, helps get everybody on the same page. Having a 10 pin connector and putting it in "Run", tells me you have a DCS cart. EZGO made both Medalist (metal body) and TXT (plastic body) body styles in 1996, so you most likely have either a 1996 Medalist DCS or a 1996 TXT DCS. Having voltage between B+ and B- terminals on controller after B+ cable from battery to solenoid is removed, tells me cart is mis-wired, or the test points and/or cables mentioned are not identified well enough for me to understand what you are trying to say. The solenoid has two main terminals with high current cables attached to them. They are usually referred to as the battery side terminal and the controller side terminal. Here is a drawing of the battery pack showing where to attach the negative test lead of your DVM for most voltage measurements. Since both motor and controller have been replaced, check, recheck and triple check the wiring. Hopefully the Run/Tow switch was in Tow while working on electrical system. As always, the first question is: What is the battery pack voltage? Note: DCS controllers don't like to run on low voltage, and will fail when they are run with too low of voltage. Next question is: Does the solenoid click? If it doesn't, the solenoid activation circuit needs to be troubleshot. If it does, the high current circuit needs to be troubleshot. Let us know and we'll proceed from there. |

Re: 1996 Ez go electric motor won't move
I'm sorry, that was voltage on M- and B+. I have since got wheels to turn in the air but not on the ground. M- voltage drops as you press the gas peddle down. Once on the ground the cart acts as if batteries are dead. It just moves real slow. Battery voltage is 37.5volts.

Solenoid does kick in and out. Also the cart is a 1996 ezgo txt. Hope this helps. I did look at wires and all look good. I just wonder if something is wrong with refurbished controller?

Hook your volt meter up to the battery pack and see if the voltage drops when you push the pedal to go. Maybe you have a battery dropping out under load.

Re: 1996 Ez go electric motor won't move
If wheels will turn when off the ground, everything is wired correctly, or pretty close to it.
37.5V is only about 80% State of charge, but that's enough to run cart with wheels on ground. But I would charge the batteries. They should be fully charged (38.2V) when troubleshooting, and when you aren't actually driving cart. What is the battery voltage when wheels are on ground, pedal is pushed, but cart isn't moving? (Might have a bad battery in the pack - One that drops under load) If the voltage between B- and M- equals battery pack voltage when solenoid clicks and then decreases to near zero as pedal is pushed to floor, the controller is doing what it is supposed to do. If the pack voltage stays up under load and the voltage at M- drops the way it is supposed to, that more or less leaves the motor and the cables connected to it. |

Re: 1996 Ez go electric motor won't move
Be careful here.... low voltage is the #1 surest way to smoke a stock DCS control. Read that again.
Connect the DMM to the battery pack mains and note the voltage, now try to go and note what the voltage drops to. Do this quickly. Do not try to make the cart go by pressing the peddle if it does not respond with motion immediately Re read the first line. |

Ok... voltage just on is 38.0 volts once accelerator is pushed it drops to 36.2 volts within seconds.
