Default 2008 ezgo RXV HELP -- Spark

With the cart parked, and you hit the peddle as you take off you hear something that sounds like grinding. The same thing happens when you hit the brakes and slow down hard.

At first I thought a nut was loose grinding on somehting. But a buddy of mine was pretty confident that it was a electric spark occuring.

It sounds like it is coming from the back right wheel area. Any ideas?

I get a "pop" noise once in a while on my lifted cart. I have noticed it occurs under a heavier load, like fast acceleration or off road riding. I thought it was the limited slip rear end. I have had my RXV's for over 6 months and have not had a problem. I did change out fluid in the rear end and checked the gears while I had the pan off. After all that it still makes the noise occasionally. This has just been my experience I could be completely wrong. I do have a second RXV that has stock tires and have noticed it does not make any noise. Maybe it is bigger tires, is yours lifted?

I just got a call from the guy who built my cart. He had been trying to fix the cart.

He said that the both hubs were loose on the rear end. He tightened the hubs and greased them and that took care of the spark.

My buddy is pretty sure it was a wire shorting sound and he said he could even smell it at one point.

I know hubs have no wiring so I question if the problem is really fixed. Does the new braking technology with the RXV's have anything to do with the hubs? Maybe the hubs being loose caused something to freak out?

Hubs loose pretty much means they need to be replaced. They are not really designed to have heavy grease on the splines. Will it quiet them down, yes, but the noises will be back. From the ones I have seen, the RXVs are really hard on hubs as that is the drive and the brakes. In a TXT cart, the hubs just drive the cart. Guess I should add tightening them to my maintenance routine..
