Default Dcx controller

Just curious before i take the time to re-program the controller if you can increase the "dead-space" between coasting and regen on the controller - seems you don't have the ability to coast down a slight incline with the stock set-up.

Any experts out there?

Thanks

Mike

I have the dcx 400 and You can change the amount of braking but I don't believe you can change the time before it does.

I can't help you about the ins and outs of DCX programming, but I thought of something that might be a work-around for the issue.

Try holding the throttle pedal down just far enough to keep the solenoid energized when you want to coast.

If that works, and you don't want the hassle of holding the pedal just so, add a "Coast" button.
Basically, a momentary contact switch wired in parallel to the throttle microswitch and mounted in a convenient location.
Something like a column or floor mounted horn button would probably work.

Thanks but that is the problem - the throttle is either on or off and going down a slight ( my driveway) grade either makes it go too fast or the regen slows it to a stop. They need a dead band that allows the cart to operate normally and only use the regen braking when your foot is off the pedal.

It would be nice to have a switch on the dash that would disable the regen as well.

Thanks

Mike

Okay, now I understand what is happening a bit better.

Your ITS is out of adjustment.

There is supposed to be either 7/32" (PDS) or 17/64" (DCS & Series) of clearance between the ITS coil and the plunger that goes into it when the pedal is all the way up. This translates to about an inch of pedal pre-travel between the point the throttle microswitch closes and where the plunger first enters the ITS coil, telling the controller to start passing amps to the motor.

Here is how to adjust - use drill size that matches your drive type.

it seems as if the controller is designed so as soon as the motor is not engaged (working) the regen comes on. You have either power or brake with no coast feature. It's not the end of the world, its just irritating. The controller needs to be designed to simulate the operation of an exhaust brake where you can let off the throttle and coast yet when you release the pedal the brake engages. Perhaps a micro switch notes the released position and engages the regen brake.

In other words, when you are cruising at 3/4 throttle and lift your foot to 1/2 throttle, regen braking comes on until the cart slows to its new cruising speed?

If so, the "Freewheel" circuit in the DCX controller is defective. (If one exists, I don't know if it exists or not.)
Opening the NC contacts in the pedal actuated microswitch is what should activate the regen braking.
(More correctly, having the NC contacts closed, ought to prevent regen braking from occurring.)

I think a call to AllTrax Tech Support is in order.

Just thinking it would be nice to have a switch on the dash to disable it like the do on pickups with exhaust brakes.

I have two of these things and they are both the same - so it must be normal.

Thanks

Mike
