Default Acceleration problem

Have an early model Marathon lifted 6 inches...20 X 10 tires. Ran good prior to getting hung up on a log.....checked batteries, checked wiring, connections, etc....All Good. Upon acceleration, starts very slowly...once it gets moving, it rides fine. However, under a heavy load, it won't respond at all. I'm suspecting the controller overheated. Am I on the right track? Thanks for your help!
