switching rear drum/hub?
Can I mount the rear drum/hubs on my 2000 pds on either side? Switch one for the drivers side and the other to the passenger side? Just wanna check and see if the existing drivers side drum/hub mounted on the passenger side makes the same noise and clunk.

Re: switching rear drum/hub?
would this be a way to check and see if one of the hubs is going out? I have play on one side and thought maybe I could swap em out and see if the noise/play stops or changes side?

Re: switching rear drum/hub?
what kind of noise? If its a high-pitch squeal you prob have a bad axle bearing, if a constant grinding or grinding on rotation may be your pads hitting the hubs...

Re: switching rear drum/hub?
hi camaroluvz28, here is a post describing what I have going on.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...b-bearing.html Trying to determine if it is a Hub going bad, coupler, input shaft or?? before I start spending cash I dont have. It is a clunk and there seems to be play.. it is more of a feel then a loud clunk. the above link has a better description. Thanks man! Last edited by lawnripper; 08-28-2012 at 11:04 AM.. Re: switching rear drum/hub?
clunk to me sounds like one of two things...either your input shaft/motor coupler have some slop in them...or your rear gears have worn down a bit and have slop in them...One thing you can do is take off the rear diff pan to drain all your gear oil and add some lucas SAE85W-140 found at any auto parts place(autozone, discount auto parts, etc) after you put pan back on...make sure you clean pan and use gasket/silicone sealant when putting pan back on the stop leaks...then fill with lucas till the oil starts running out of the fill hole...then try cart...just a suggestion..but even if it doesnt fix the prob it should run alot quieter

Re: switching rear drum/hub?
I just got back from the only EZGO shop and got to talk a bit with the head mechanic. Very cool person. They also say that they put 80-90w oil in the diffs.
He said it is possible that it is a hub that is wearing out or coupler/ input shaft) but without the part or the cart it is hard to say). He said to try switching the hubs and see what happens. He also said that if it is the coupler, that I have to replace the whole rotor? I read on here that you can weld a bolt onto the coupler and pull it off to replace just the coupler? Also he said If I drive it until it does not move anymore that I wont be damaging anything else. Will just have to replace the stripped parts. When I get back home I will do what you recommended which I am sure is overdue on my cart. I saw a rebuild on this site that was really well documented and the guy filled the pan with 10 oz. of oil directly in the pan then carefully bolted it back on? He also had a blue color RTV sealant? So far I have only found a grey, red and black? Any recommendations on the RTV type? My pops said I can also add some grease in there as well? I am not sure about that one? Thanks for the help! i need it... I am also excited to work on my cart!! but I am learning. More of a shade tree mechanic out of necessity. |
