Default Brake kick back

So I've ordered my electrical upgrades on my 2000 EZ GO TXT PDS. Now onto another item....

When moving forward if I push the brake pedal I often get a lot of "kick back". If I'm on pavement and a low downward grade the kickback is minimal or absent but if I'm on rough terrain it is very bad. The brakes are working to stop the cart just fine but it requires a lot of force and fighting the pedal. If I'm on a relatively rough downward slope the kick back can be real bad even at a crawl. At some times it sounds like a fairly loud clang under the front end when the kick back occurs.

I just bought the cart and it has a 6" spindle lift with 22" tires. I'm going to assume there were no adjustments to the brakes when the lift was installed.

Need to know if this is an adjustment issue or if it's going to require buying longer brake cables.

Thanks for any help!

check and make sure that your rubber leaf spring bushings are not worn out or gone...that can cause this..

Hey Doc, it sounds like your brake peddle arm may be hitting some part of the steering or suspension. Maybe you can get somebody to press the peddle while you have a look underneath?

is a there a diagram on here (maybe a sticky?) that will show the brakes and where the rubber leaf springs, etc.. are located?

the clanging is definitely metal on metal... but isn't always present which tells me although they're both related to braking, the brake pedal arm hitting something shouldn't be the whole reason for the kick back??? At least that's what my thinking is???

I've taken a brief look underneath a few times but haven't had the extra person to press on the pedal just yet. I'll take a look and see what I can find.

alot of times the bushings being bad will cause the rear end to slide and make a clanking or sliding noise...not a sure thing but def something worth checking out, another thing to check is follow the brake cable on the drivers side underneath back from where they connect to frame...when it starts going back does it go through a bracket next to the battery box and then back down? when you lift these carts that brake line should be taken out of that bracket to relieve pressure off the line, I use a large zip-tie for the brake line on lifted carts...I'll try and take a pic of the leaf spring bushings and post shortly...

Download the Owner's, Service, and Parts manuals from the stickies. There's a whole chapter on brakes, and good exploded diagrams.

I had a similar problem on mine. There is a brake "bumper" between the frame and the brake pedal rod. It should be on the part parallel to the ground just before the curve in the pedal rod. The metal on metal is probably the set screws thet release the brake when you hit the gas. Look and see if these screws are touching anything. I just installed a bolt as a temp fix. It's been that way ever since.

Good luck
