Newbie with TXT questions
New here and have lots of questions! I have a 03 TXT series cart lifted with 23x10.50x12 tires. Battries are in good shape and I have upgraded to 4ga cables. A while back I had to put a FNR switch in it, it quit on my son the other day and I think its the same prob when petal pressed it would make a click like a solenoid click on and off. My questions are, should I upgrade to a heavy duty FNR switch, should I go ahead and upgrade to a 400a controller while I'm working on it? This cart is used mostly for checking cows and feeding, ride it to the treestand too. Don't need lots of speed mostly torque for pulling small hills. Do I need the programable AXE controller or will the NPX work? Gonna stay 36v no need for 48. Can't spend a bunch on it right now but I do want to get it running. All suggestions welcome as to what to do to this cart to get it where it needs to be so it won't leave me stranded! Thanks guys, hope to hang out around here some now that I've found it.

Re: Newbie with TXT questions
The specialist will be here shortly, but you may want to jump the solenoid while the cart is on jack stands. My HD solenoid is getting really hot with those big tires, so your regular one is probably toast. The F&R switch handles all the current, so You should at least put the HD cam in it also.

Re: Newbie with TXT questions
Those big tire take a lot of amps to turn and they have reduced the torque available where rubber meets dirt by about 25%, so it is human nature to push the accelerator harder to compensate for the loss. With those big tires, you need heavy duty everything.
It might be a blown controller, or it could be a burnt out F/R contact, or it could be a lot of things. With cart on jackstands, attach a DVM between the B- and M- terminals on the controller and press pedal until solenoid clicks. You should read Full battery pack voltage. If not, you've got a problem between the controller and the B+ post on the battery pack. If you've got the voltage, press the pedal slowly to the floor. The voltage should drop down to nearly zero. If not the controller is bad , or the throttle input to controller is bad. Let us know what you find and we'll go from there. |

Re: Newbie with TXT questions
Here's what my stock solenoid with stock tires and stock controller looked like. I replaced it with another used stock one, and it did the same, so I upgraded to a HD solenoid. If the solenoid is melted, your stock FNR may not be far behind it with those large tires.

Re: Newbie with TXT questions
Ok guys got to dig into the cart a little today. Have a burned out terminal on the front battery closest to controller. Bolt pulled out of post ,so something got hot! Waiting on adjustment and new batt to get here Fri. JohnnieB you kinda talkin above my head with the DVM, I'm not real good with electric stuff, but I'm learning. Got the ok from the bride to get controller, solenoid and hd fnr. Sooooo, is this a job I can do by myself? With ya'lls help of course. Can I get the new controller set where I need it from the dealer I get it from? Got a cheap a meter and some determination so I would really like to do it on my own. Sorry for all the newbie questions, just didn't know where else to turn. Thanks guys for all the advice.

Re: Newbie with TXT questions
Ok got battery fixed, thanks sms-shop,charged it up,cart runs! So now its time
for some upgrades. JohnnieB,saw the packages on your site was wondering which 1 I would need? Tire size and uses in original post. I know I need the hd fnr cam. Didn't know if the 101 or 101B package would be what I needed or not. Thanks for the help guys, I'm sure learning lots from this site. Thanks again. |
