I am of the opinion that running a seperate battery for all accessories is the better idea. I use an AGM motorcycle battery and it's works just fine. It has to be charged by itself and can not be wired as part of the main pack. All that said, yes use a fuse. The normal 15 or 20 amp fuse that usually comes in the package is fine. It's all based upon the current draw of the items being powered, not the power of the battery powering it.

yes...I use a seperate 12v battery for accessories and run everything through a fuse block.

Question Re: Question about in line fuses

I have zero room for a seperate 12v battery. My plan is to either run a converter or go directly to the batteries. I have a 10 amp 36v to 12v converter. I think I understand how to wire it I just dont get how to wire the accessories once it is on. Would I run the accessories as usual based on the coversion to 12v? I also have a toggle switch that I can use to turn the converter on and off just not positive how to wire it.

Question Re: Question about in line fuses

Thanks for the responses...

If I add a converter;
Red wire 36V+ to the 1st battery in the series (looking from rear, top battery on left of fnr switch) Fused near the converter?
Black wire 36V- in to the last battery in the series (looking from rear of cart top battery on right of fnr switch)
Yellow 12v+ out As I understand this is a control wire and can go to the 36v pos, or the key switch or a toggle switch? Fused near the converter.
Black 12v- out. to the last neg in the pack same as the other black

Here's where I get confused, where do I wire the accessories? Just leave them where they are wired now which are the two batteries top left side if looking from the rear, back of the cart?

DO NOT CONNECT THESE WIRES AS DESCRIBED!!!!!!!!!
You will destroy the converter and blow up the batteries, giving everything in the area a sulfuric acid shower.

Connect the +36V IN and the -36V IN to the main + and - terminals on battery pack as shown in drawing.
(Drawing also shows where to connect DVM negative test lead for most voltage measurements while troubleshooting)

Connect the the accessories' + and - wires to the +12V OUT and -12V out respectively.

Do not connect the + or - 12V OUT to the battery pack. The battery pack feeds the converter, the converter feeds the accessories.

If the converter does not have a fifth wire (On/Off control wire), you'll have to add a switch to one of the 36V input wires.

Question Re: Question about in line fuses

Thank you for the reply. glad I did not get ambious last night! Ok so I am good with the 36v +/- but I am totaly confused about where the 12v +/- on the converter go?

Connect the the accessories' + and - wires to the +12V OUT and -12V out respectively. This is the Stereo, headlights, etc...?

Do not connect the + or - 12V OUT to the battery pack. The battery pack feeds the converter, the converter feeds the accessories. This is where I am lost,
If above is accessories is this the 12v in and out on the converter?

If the converter does not have a fifth wire (On/Off control wire), you'll have to add a switch to one of the 36V input wiresLIke a toggle switch? To which 36v the + or -?

I'm starting to feel a little like a pest, sorry for all the questions

Your converter has four wires or terminals. Two are marked 36V and two are marked 12V

The two wires or terminals on the converter marked 36V, connect to the 36V battery pack and nothing else.
IF so desired a switch can be inserted in the + wire so you can turn the converter on/off.

All of you accessories, (IE Stereo and lights) connect to the two wires/terminals on the converter marked 12V.
Simply remove the negative wire or wires going to your lights and stereo to the Negative terminal on the battery pack and attach it/them to the -12V OUT on the converter.
Disconnect the positive wire or wires going to your lights and stereo from the positive terminal of the second battery and attach to the +12V OUT om the converter.

The only wires/cables that should now be connected to the main terminals on your battery pack will be the two heavy gauge cables going to the motor drive circuitry, the wires to the cart's charger receptacle and the two wire to the 36V terminals on the converter.
