Cart newbie, any advice?
I have a... I think 2000 western/EZ GO? Elegante I've replaced the battery pack with all US 2200's had a few issues that I fixed with my trusty multi meter. Any advice what to do what not to do... I'll post some pics of the serial # chime in if you know the year and if in fact it is on a EZ GO chassis... I don't know if it is meaningful or not but the last seven digits of the number on the frame (1411312) returns this on the EZGO look-up website:
Search Results Make: TXT Type: Electric 36 V Model: TXT Standard (PDS) Year: 2001 Whatever it is, charge the new batteries fully before first use. (Probably too late for that ) And then break them in properly to obtain maximum storage capacity. (New batteries only store about 75% of max storage until they are matured.) Also, keep your batteries charged as fully as possible and practical and they'll last longer. |

Thanks for the reply! Looks like western changes things up a bit since its a 42 volt cart now, the main reason waiting to know is for when I need parts since western is out of business... About the battery's I've been reading a lot of info on BGW since I bought the cart and am in the process of breaking the battery's in rite now, I'm on the 3rd cycle of 75% than recharge and yes I fully charged them before use YES it was hard to wait the 10 hours it took to charge!

Thank you guys!,,, i have one more question "for now" i no absolutely nothing about about the controllers, when you say PDS what does that mean and how do they work, any weak parts that may need to be serviced regularly....? Thanks again for the replys.

PDS means Precision Drive System. Basically it is a controller and Sepex motor combination.
Sepex means SEparately EXcited and is also know as a Shunt wound or Parallel wound motor. If you have a Sepex motor, it will have two heavy cables connected to the A1 and A2 terminals, and two lighter gauge wires connecter to the F1 and F2 terminals. The stock PDS controller only ran on 36V, so Western replaced it with controller that runs on 42V. I'm not sure of the model number they used, but it may be called a PDS-2 or PDS-HD controller. If there is a Run/Tow switch on the cart someplace, be sure to put it in Tow before doing any electrical work, or you might blow the controller and they are expensive. The US-2200 is a good battery and with 232AH @ 42V, you should have a fairly decent run-time. After you break them in, keep them as fully charged as possible and practical, and they should last a long time. (With proper watering and cleaning of course. ) The weakest parts will probably be the high current cables and maybe the solenoid. (I'm not sure if Western upgraded solenoid along with controller) The interconnecting cables on the batteries, as seen in the pictures, have open ended lugs and don't look to be very heavy gauge. All the high current cables should be 4Ga or heavier. The terminal lugs should be the closed end type and the gap between the lug and the cables insulation should be sealed air tight. Other than the coachwork and a few electrical changes, I belive the rest of it is basically an EZGO TXT, so you can probably use regular EZGO parts for most of the drive train, suspension and steering. |

On the early Elegante the Run/Tow switch was often located just below the drivers seat cushion... like if you reached down between your legs when seated you would find it.
