Default Where do i put 3rd wire on powerwise qe charger?

Got a 48 volt powerwise qe charger with a three wire plug setup. Trying to hook up my 48 volt battery pack on a 92 marathon. What do I do with the third wire.

Connect it to the Negative (-) terminal in the plug.
That is the battery sense wire and the charger won't turn on unless it is connected properly.

im a little confused i connected one wire the positive to the first positive at start of batter pack, then i put the second wire to the negative at the end of the battery pack. Are you telling me to ground the third wire.

I do not use the word ground when I am speaking about golf carts because the battery pack and all electrical circuits should be completely isolated from the frame and body.
The metal chassis of cars are used as return paths to save wire, doing so in electric carts becomes a safety issue.

What are you trying to do, change the output plug on the PW-QE so it fits the charging receptacle on a Marathon, or mount the PW-QE as an on-board charger and connect it directly to the battery pack?

In either case:
The positive output wire from the charger connects to the main positive terminal of the battery pack.
The negative output wire from the charger connects to the main negative terminal of the battery pack.
The charger's battery sense wire also connects the the main negative terminal of the battery pack.

Whether the wire are directly connected to the battery pack or go through a plug/receptacle combination in the middle, the electrical connections are ultimately the same.

I thought it only had 3 but looks like 4 now that im trying to actually hook it up. Im really confused now.

Sounds like you are installing a RXV charging receptacle. (Picture attached)

If that is the case, I'm not sure which wire goes where and I don't have an RXV schematic or wiring diagram.

All I know to do is open the Plug on the charger cable and see which wires attach to which pins. The heavy black wire should be negative and the other heavy wire (Red or White) should be positive. The pins they are connected to should match up with the receptacle's pins that have the black and red wires attached and those wires should be connected to the negative and positive main terminals on the battery pack. (Black is negative)

Then I would use an Ohmmeter to find out which wire (blue or grey) was connected to the third terminal and connect it to the main negative terminal on the battery pack. I suspect this will be the grey wire since it has a ring terminal on it.

Actually, I would connect the Red and Black wires from the receptacle to the battery pack and plug in charger, both to cart and AC power.
If it came on, I'd clip the blue and grey wire off the receptacle.
If it didn't, I'd try just touching the Grey wire to the main negative terminal on battery pack.

I'm just guessing the 48V QE chargers use the negative side of the battery pack for sensing like the 36V QE chargers do.

Maybe someone with an RXV will chime in and tell us where the wires go in an RXV, so we can figure out how to connect it on something else.

That rxv receptical is exactly what I have , I haven't tried it yet but you thinking red to + and black to - on pack and then the grey to negative also. The grey looks like it has a resistoor on it. I heard these chargers are junk but I'm tryin to eliminate using two chargers a 12 and 36.

If the Marathon's original charge receptacle is still installed, why not just charge the plug on the charger to an Anderson SB-50?

Hi
This I what I know about the charger on a 2009 RXV. The third wire supplies 4.7 volts to the electronics of the cart. On mine there is an LED light in the receptacle which comes on. The 4.7 volts also disables the cart from being operated. The charger itself senses the current draw of the 4.7 volt line and tells the microprocessor to turn on the charger. The added safety feature of the third wire is that the connection is shorter than the plus minus pins. If you pull out the plug this pin breaks first turning off the charger. 48 volts at 13 or so amps can create quite an arc. There is no problem connecting this pin to minus and the charger wouldn’t the difference.
