Default 1996 EzGo "click"

New to the forum. I have a 1996 EzGo it says Freedom on the side too...

If I unplug it from the charger and turn the key on it wont work in forward or reverse. It will beep in reverse. It will click in forward and click in reverse too. ...I assume that is the solenoid. After waiting about 20 minutes it will work just fine!

What is wrong? How can I fix it? Should I have to wait?

Welcome to BGW

can you tell us what drive system you have, here's a chart figure out which drive system it is, maybe your charger is over chargeing the batteries and they need to settle a little before the controller will let the cart run,, maybe a bad micro in the go pedal, maybe a bad solenoid, how old are the batteries,? can you tell us what the battery pack volts are at the end of the charge, right before the charger turns off, or right when it turns off?,, there's a few things that it could be

1996 Ez Go

36 Volt

5 year old batteries(6 - 6Volts). Runs good after 20 minutes idle to calm it down - lets say. Runs for 1+ hours. Dunno after that, never ran it for more.

According to the chart, it is a series cart. I have the finned control in the top picture with 4 tabs and 2 little tabs. My FWD & REV is the same as the one in the picture but shrouded by a 1/4 piece of metal mounting bracket.

The controller you identified is a Curtis 1204.
Clean the top of it to make sure there is no conductive residue between the 4 big terminal and 3 small terminal.
(Voltage leakage between terminal can cause erratic operation)

------------
What is the battery pack voltage when the cart won't run?

What is the battery pack voltage when the cart finally decides to run?

------------

A 1996 EZGO with "Freedom" on the side and a 1204 controller, isn't ringing any bells for me.
(IE: A '96 Medalist or TXT would have a 1206 controller, but it might be a less common body style.)

Please go to this site and see if you can further identify which cart you have.

It is possible that your pack exceeds the preset limits on the control when hot off the charger, and that after 20 minutes the charge voltage has settled to an 'acceptable' level, live with it

Same issue with the same cart turned out to be bad F/R switch. Over time contacts wear from sliding and dont touch anymore. Not to say thats your problem but it could be lol

That is what I was thinking. But, is that a charger issue or a control issue?

Meaning, is the charger overcharging? Or, is the control about to fail?
