Which Powerwise charger, Powerwise, Powerwise+, Powerwise II or Powerwise QE?

I'm not sure about the QE, but the first three don't have a float charge mode.
However they all have a back-up timer that shuts the charger off after about 16 hours if the on-charge voltage fails to reach the cutoff voltage.

I suspect you mean Gassing instead of sulfating. Sulfating cannot be readily seen or heard. Gassing occurs during the later charging phase.

Connect a DVM across the main positive and negative terminals on the battery pack.

The on-charge voltage will start at whatever the battery pck voltage is before charger is attached and climb up into the 44 to 46 volt range, at which point the charger should automatically shut off.

If it reaches that voltage range and doesn't shut off, there is something wrong with charger,

If it doesn't reach that voltage range, there is something wrong with battery pack.

Let us know which charger and what the on-charge voltage is doing and we'll proceed from there.

You have one of these.

Good charger, built like a tank and 100% repairable.
Here is a manual for it (also includes Powerwise+)

Your batteries are probably May-2010. (Letter = Month and Number = last digit of year, so it could be May-2000, but 12 year old cart batteries aren't likely)

Did this charger ever work with this set of batteries?

Does charger hum when it is plugged into AC power and NOT plugged into cart?
(If so, the relay is bypassed and it will never shut off)
