Default Need Shackle Info For TXT PDS

I want to make some longer shackles for my '07 PDS. Unfortunately my cart is at a lake 90 miles away so I can't measure anything. I want to build these and take them with me the next time I go to the lake.

Could someone please measure their shackles? I need length, width and thickness of the OEM shackles. I also need the size of the holes and distance apart.

Also, I want to get a two inch rear lift so my foot rest will clear my trailer rail. My lake neighbor said he made his 2" and got a two inch lift. I have read here that if you make the shackles 4" longer you will get a 2" lift. Which is correct?

And, is there a shackle length where it might be advisable to put a center bolt and spacer to stabilize them?

Thanks,

Rick

I believe standard shackles are 1 1/2 wide, 3 1/2 long, 1/4 thick with 3/8 holes 2 1/2 inches apart.

As you are only lifting one side the lift gained will be half of what you add. However, be careful as you may need to add shock extensions and possibly some bracing..

Thanks for the info. So, I would have to make them 7 1/2" long to get the 2" lift. That doesn't sound very stable for lateral loads. Sounds like this might be more trouble than I want to deal with. I currenly load the cart backwards with additional 2 x 10 boards under the rear wheels to clear the railing with the rear seat foot rest. I may just leave it at that.

You could always buy a short lift. I put a 3 inch axle lift on my 99 cart just so I could swing my foot out the side as well as it raised the roof so I didn't keep bashing my head into it... Running stock tires and wheels

That might work as well. Do you have a link for the kit that you used?

I used an AllSports from one of the sponsors but it is a different lift than yours. You need 2001 and newer.. I know EZ-Go sells a kit that they call a mid-rise.. Like 2 inches using just springs and shackles

Thanks again. I found the kit on the EZGO website with instructions and pictures. I would be nice if I could just buy the rear end parts and raise the rear end and not have to mess with the front. The main reason is to get the foot rest two inches higher. I have a 5 x 8 trailer with the fold down mesh ramp. I currently have to use some extension boards so the foot rest doesn't dig into the ramp when I back it on. Plus it helps clear the front trailer rail.

You could flip the rear axle on top with some perches but that will raise it about 3 inches but in my opinion would make the cart look goofy. If all you need it for is transport just put a couple sets of 2X6 down on the bed. Two pieces each side, different lengths with a bevel edge on the front. Will get you 3 inches. If you need more, add another one.

The trailer bed is mesh and I have already done what you suggested using 2 x 10's which does give me clearance over the front rail. A 2" raise would keep the foot rest from hitting the ramp whan I back it on. I have some 6" blocks I put under the end of the ramp and then run some 4' 2 x 10's to the blocks which gives me the clearance. Since I only haul it twice a year I think the easiest thing to do it to leave it as is. When I go to the lake next week I will measure the shackles my neighbor made and see how much lift he actually got. He has the same model PDS with stock tires like mine. He said he made the shackles 2" longer and got a 2" lift. The tape measure will tell the truth.

Thanks for your help.

Rick

Just a thought, this may not work.

If you only need this for getting in and out of a trailer, could you maybe cut two 2x6s to place between the axle and somewhere on the frame? You could notch one end to fit on the axle, and you'd have to find somewhere it could be securely wedged/fastened to the frame.

My thought is, you use a floor jack to lift the cart and install the wooden supports, drive up the ramp, then use the floor jack to remove them.

Comments?
