Default protective paint, battery tray

I am about to begin a total frame up refurb of a 2006 DCS I just purchased, and was thinking about what would be appropriate to use to protect the battery tray compartment. Some ideas are epoxy paint, red oxide primer...or maybe that's overkill. Any suggestions out there ?

I usually clean it well and spray it with rustoleum brand truck bedliner from a rattle can. You can get it at Lowes or Walmart for about $7 per can. It's tough as nails.

Por 15 is a really good product. I just did a complete on a 1994 Ezgo and used Por 15. I had good results with my Buick Grand National using this as well.

Easy to apply just dont get it on your hands it will take days to get off, and I have only seen brake fluid actually eat this product off metal.

If you can,get it sand-blasted,then Epoxy-Prime it.That stuff is extremely durable.I don't know how bedliners will hold up to acids.

Powder coat is really the best. It is very hard for anything to penetrate it. Doesn't cost much either.

The only downfall of Powder-Coat,is that if it gets a chip, then it starts flaking off.I deal with alot of powder-coating thru work, and I'm not impressed. We have products from many different vendors, and none of them hold up under heavy use,or around corrosives(batteries,salt,etc...).Just my 2-cents.

I'm in the process of a total rebuild of my EZGO TXT Series Cart. I sandblasted the frame and have replaced the battery tray. Prior to applying the primer to the frame I brushed it with Ospho metal prep --phenomenal stuff. I then applied two coats of primer and then 3 coats of good enamel.

For the battery tray itself, although new, it didn't look like they primered it so I stripped it and did the same thing as the frame. The last thing I used atop the finish coat on the battery tray is an aviation anti corrosive called Cor-Ban 35. Figured it couldn't hurt. It's a fantastic product in general for it's anti-corrosive properties and is heavily used in aircraft.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've decided to go with Rustoleum truck bed via spray can. Plan to power wash entire frame and wire brush battery area to prep. May use some oxide primer I have on the worst spots.

I started out with their spray, then changed to brush on. While the spray may get into hard to reach areas better, you can get a good thick coat easier by brush.

I recently did this - coated with POR 15 first, followed by can of duplicolor bed liner.
