Cables batteries etc

Well I charged the thing over night. When I turned off the charger, I could hear the water in the batteries bubbling. I think this is normal, but am not sure.

I have been reading lots of threads, and even though the cables look decent, (no melted insulation or anything) I am considering making some new ones. I understand 4 guage, high strand count welding cable is the right stuff, but what about connections. Are brass ends best, and should they be tinned or is crimping sufficient. I am already removing the wing nuts in favor of SS nuts.

Also I am going to write down the codes stamped into the posts on the batteries, and see if I can figure out their mfg date. If I can't figure out the code, I may post them here and see if someone can tell me when they were made. I already suspect two of the batteries are newer than the others.

Pure copper or tin coated copper lugs are top notch. The lugs with the square ends....well, you will probly have to grind the ends round in some places so try and get rounded ends unless you like doing more work. Brass is a totally different material, not sure if you could even find brass lugs.

It is normal for batteries to bubble a bit.

Just removed and cleaned all cables and posts, one at a time. I also cleaned the battery surfaces with the baking soda solution, rinsing and drying. Took the cart for another ride, and barely made it back up the small hill in my driveway. If the cart sits for 10 minutes, it takes off pretty quick for a few seconds, then slows to a fast crawl within 50 yards. I am thinking the batteries are shot.

So, if I am going to replace them, based on threads I have read, I may be better off replacing them with 8 volt batteries, which would give me more power, longer range, etc. I would also have to change out the charger. Right now I live in the Milwaukee Metro area. Is there a best place to buy good batteries around here, and am I better off to stick with 36V or go to 48V????

If you buy lugs be sure and get 4 gage with a 5/16 hole. Any bigger and things tend to get sloppy.

Not unless you are ready to replace other components too besides the charger. I don't know which cart you have, but roady89 can tell you too, that if it is a controller cart, the controller will need to be replaced too as well as the solenoid.

Welcome, You need to start by posting the voltmeter readings from all of the batteries. Let's take it from there!

Checked prices on batteries today, in the likely event that I need to swap them out. Keep in mind these are all 6V. Trojan T-125's $185 each. Energizer GC2's (roughly the equivelant of a T-105) at sams club $66 each. That means I can Change out the Sams Club batts every two years, compared to the T-125's every 5 and 1/2 years for the same price. Gee, I think I will try the Sam's Club batts unless someone can give me a compelling reason why I should not.

It will cost me approx $420 to do a complete change out.

Any advice??

No doubt that a good price on those sams batteries, but I think whoever is trying to sell you T-105's for $185 is also trying to mess you around.

I bought six of those Sam's batteries @ $66.00 a few months ago.
They're fine!!
