Default All Reverse no Forward

I have what I believe to be a late 90's early 2000 EZ Go DCS. It has the run/tow switch and the direction control is between passenger and driver below seat. Cart has been going along fine, went to replace a couple of battery cables, and low and behold now when I have cart in forward position and press on pedal I get to go in reverse. When cart is in reverse position and pedal is pushed I still go in reverse. When I replaced cables had small electric sparks when connection was made. I checked micro switches, even bypassed them and still have same problem. Can anyone help, its almost like something is hung up. Also I touched the main (diode?, the larger of the three) and it was fairly hot.

This is a common controller failure complaint.

Did you remember to put the RUN-TOW switch to TOW before doing any electrical work?
The minor shorts you mentioned could have taken the controller out ...

Did you put the Tow-run switch in " tow " before removing and replacing the cables? If not, you may have damaged the controller! Sparks are never a good thing. Some more folks will be on shortly, who are more familiar with DCS carts. This problem seems to be rather frequent with this type of system.

I am having to use the cart on my horse ranch for now. Is there a way to bypass or switch so that cart moves only forward? Just using the cart to get by until I finish rebuilding tranny on my mule. After that then I can look at upgrading. Been a bad week here at the ranch for equipment. If it is the controller which one do I need?

Switch the 10g white and black wires on the far passenger side of the controller, just swap them so white is on the outside and you will reverse the cart direction... good luck and stay away from the hot-walker and the water truck until next week.

Enter your serial number here to find out what the cart is: http://www.shopezgo.com/customer-ser...ialNumber.html

If it is a DCS, the #505DCS kit would be a suitable replacement.

There is one other thing you need to look at.
The black and white wires run through a guide and are bad to rub the insulation off and short out the controller.
I have had this problem more than once.
