charge guage
I put an analoge charge guage in my '05 ezgo and wired it directly to the last batterys which is how the dealer told me to wire it. I also have a fuse in the pos. wire. The charger shows a full charge at all times, even when it died on me. It seems like the guage is showing me that there is 36 volts in the batteries but will not show the true state of charge. Is it wired correctly and can I wire it to the key so that is shuts off when not in use. I currently have a togle switch in line to shut it off.
Thanx! |

Re: charge guage
Yes you can, just put the key switch in line in the place of the toggle. 36 volts is "empty"....Here is a pic of how I wired mine through the key switch on my club car. I ran the negative lead staight from the battery pack and switched (interrupted) the positive lead with the key switch.

Re: charge guage
Thanx for the picture of your wire job. I'll give it a go. I still don't understand why the gage doesn't tell me that the batteries need charging when they're low. I get the same reading on the gage when it's fully charged as when it is ready for a re-charge. It tells me that there's 36 volts but not when it's ready for a charge. Somethin's funky here.

Re: charge guage
THe positive of the gauge should go to the open side of the key switch like in the photo and the negative side to the negative side of the #6 battery in your pack.

Re: charge guage
Gman, I think you are missing a point here. 36 volts is ready for a recharge. Fully charged will be a couple of volts higher. And as the cart uses up the available ampsthe volt meter will also go down. So key point #1 is carts use Amps, not volts. Key thing #2 is that at 36 volts, your pack is ready for a recharge. Serious damage can occur if the pack is repeatedly drawn down below 36 volts. Hope this helps The other side of that picture looks like this...

Re: charge guage
Right. The hook up to the key switch is a no brainer and that's working fine. I'll use it again and see if the guage drops towards the red as the batteries discharge. I do notice that the gage shows a noticible discharge when I'm driving along, then goes back to fully charged when I take my foot of the 'gas'.

I have the same issue. Did you ever get an answer to the gauge readings question? |

Re: charge guage
Nope. No word yet on the funkyness of these gages. I think it's really an amp gage and maybe I just don't know how to properly read it yet, but it seems to me that it should gradually swing towards the discharge side as the batteries become depleted and show me when to re charge them. Perhaps one of those LED gages would work better?
