Default what is a good voltage in batteries

hey all. i am going to look at a 2002 ez go golf cart tomorrow . the owner says the batteries say E 0 on them. they are trojan 105 s . just wondering if i take a digital volt meter what the readings should be to indicate that they have lots of life left in them. i assume that they are 2010 batteries by the stamp and they said the cart and charger work great. just dont want to buy something with near toasted batteries. they cost as much as the cart to replace.thanks

Even if a voltmeter shows solid voltage, there is no way short of a load test to be sure of their internal condition. I would take a flashlight to examine the water level and plate condition. You never know how someone else has maintained their batteries. My batteries are also 2010 and hold a rested charge of 38.7-38.8. 38.2 is considered a "full charge". A 38.2 reading on a voltmeter doesn't mean much if the charger shut off two minutes before you got there to inspect the cart. I personally would put more faith in how knowledgeable the owner seems and how the batteries look. Clean, no swelled cases, good water level and so on.

thanks kab, good advice. i guess a load tester would be a good investment considering the cost of a new set of batteries. could use one around the shop anyway.

I'm talking about a cart shop style discharge cycle and recharge to get an idea of where the batteries stand for their age.

Make sure to do a load test on those batts , even fairly new batts can have problems , ESP. If they were not stored correctly over winter
Cheers !
