2008 EZGO 36v -good deal?
Hey! Brand new to the forum....found it yesterday while reading about a cart I'm looking at getting for around the house and at hunting camp. A guy has a 2008 EZGO 36v, not sure which model though, with new Trojan batteries in it that he's asking $1800 for. I'm willing to trade my 4 wheeler with him and he seems interested too.
Here's my questions and concerns for you experts to weigh in on. My hunting club is decent size and I can travel upwards of 10 miles with only a few small hills. With new Trojan batteries on a 36v system, will this be good enough for me? Will the SOC still be good when I get back to the hunt camp after 10 miles of cruising with 2 people and (hopefully) a deer on back? What speed can I expect out of it stock? What are the first mods for speed that can be done that don't dramatically effect or reduce my distance I can travel? Is there something other than replacing expensive motors that can be done here? I though I read where people boost a 36v cart by running 48v in it without changing other stuff. Does this hurt the motor or controllers? Hopefully I'll get a pic soon. |

Re: 2008 EZGO 36v -good deal?
At 36V, it could be a 2008 TXT Series (Series wound motor) or a 2008 TXT PDS (Sepex motor), but in either case the load limit (Driver, Passenger, hunting gear and maybe a deer) is 800 lbs and a 10 mile round trip is within the nominal range of a stock TXT cart with good batteries.
If it is a PDS, you can easily get about 18MPH by just installing a "Speed Chip", but if it is a series cart, to get more than about 14MPH you'll have to increase the battery pack voltage and/or increase the tire height and/or put higher speed gears in differential. The thing to remember is that an electric golf cart is designed to carry two golfers and their clubs about 275 yards over groomed trails, stop for about ten minutes, then continue to the next Tee and after repeating this process 18 times, the batteries are to be recharged. To do more than this, the drive system has to be upgraded. FWIW: I'm anticipating speeds in the mid 20's and a round trip range of at least 25 miles in the 2008 PDS I'm putting together. |

Okay...he sent me the pics. He still says it just an EZGO and not the model. Where is the model listed so I can have him look for it? Or can you tell from the pics?
Thoughts? He said he is getting 17-19mph outta it. Sound right on a stock machine? Edit: it won't let me post the pics as I've only been a member since yesterday. Bummer. |

Hard to tell from the pic and reflections but it appears to be a PDS cart and if it gets that speed it probably has a speed chip in it. Price is ok but not great..

Re: 2008 EZGO 36v -good deal?
Thanks. I figured it was an average price from what I've seen around. Not a steal, but I'm not getting robbed either. It's the color I want with new batteries, so I'm going for it. I just have to get my four wheeler from the hunt camp this weekend so I can do the trade.
Hopefully it'll go through and I'll become a tried and true member on these forums here! |

A couple more to maybe help determine the model.

A lot depends on the sellers definition of "new" batteries. A brand new set of 6 Trojan T105's would be worth $500 +. Sounds like an OK deal if the batteries are 6 mos. old or less and well taken care of. - RAY

Re: 2008 EZGO 36v -good deal?
Forward/Reverse switch on the dash would make it a PDS. Picture of the dash would help. Also, PDS (Precision Drive System)usually has a decal on the side saying PDS, but I suppose that could have been removed. RAY

I have a 2008 PDS. I called Scotty B and talked to him about upgrades for mine. He was very helpful in getting me what I needed to get my cart running like I want it to.
