Flooded vs AGM vs Gel batteries?
I am a somewhat familiar with batteries – but am curious about the real differences between flooded lead acid, AGM and Gel batteries. I have heard mixed thoughts on each. Does anyone have any real experience using all 3, or 2 of these? I’m trying to understand if the maintenance free aspect of the AGM and Gel batteries are worth the extra cost over flooded. I have also heard different opinions regarding how well/deep the AGM and Gel batteries cycle compared to flooded. Any insight/experience would be great!

Re: Flooded vs AGM vs Gel batteries?
Check out this thread. It's a start. The deep cycle AGM's are the only ones that can hold a candle to FLA's. The AGM's can actually cycle more than FLA's depending on the use and maintenance but in the end price is the stopper.
I'll seriously consider the deep cycle AGM's when my FLA's are up for retirement. They (AGM's) are much easier to maintain, last as long or longer, don't leak, can stand up to "rough" service, don't self discharge near as badly, and hopefully by that time will be more cost effective/competitive. |
