97' TXT problem...
Hello folks,
I'm new to the forum and I have a question maybe one of you can help with an answer. I have a 97' EZ-GO TXT and sometimes the cart wants to go into reverse when the direction switch is in forward. Now this will happen in either way. It appears the motor is changing polarity until de-energized then all is well. I did remove the diode and double red wire from the bottom of the solenoid as it seemed to have gotten hot at one time or another, but this did not solve the problem. This is an intermittent problem that is become a safety issue when my wife drives the cart with the kids in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need more info, please ask and I'll make it happen. Mike |

Welcome to the forum mikeshotrodshop................
Thats a weird one. Send all the information you have on this problem. Are there any other problems you have noticed with the cart? |

Re: 97' TXT problem...
Thanks for the replies guys,
As far as all of the problems - what it appears to be is: the motor is switching polarity. If you have the cart in forward and hit the accelerator, the cart will reverse. When you remove your foot from the accelerator and reapply the cart will proceed in the direction it was switched to (I hope this is making sense). Another problem I noticed was the 2-red wires going to the left side terminal of the solenoid got hot at one time and burned some. I removed these wires and the circuit board that has three diodes on it. I thought maybe this was my problem; no such luck.... Since this circuit board has been removed along with the 2-red wires, I have lost regen and motor braking. When you take your foot off the accelerator the cart free wheels with no resistance. Also, it doesn’t seem to have much speed. I do have a 400amp controller and it seems worse than stock or at least the same. I replaced the controller thinking this was the problem with the going in the opposite direction than what it was switched to. I hope this helps, caus I could use some…. BTW – DCS or PCS, I’m not sure. I do have a run tow switch and the forward reverse switch is in front of the seat, not on the dash. |

Re: 97' TXT problem...
I have a 97 TXT, and if his cart is stock, it's likely non-DCS.
Does it look like these: |

Re: 97' TXT problem...
I agree, the cart is a DCS. If water gets into the F/R switch assembly all sorts of weird things can happen. It's not common, but it does happen.
Is your 400 amp controller aftermarket, or is your cart a Freedom model? |
