Marathon Purchase Questions
What I believe to be a Marathon has surfaced on CraigsList. Before I call the guy I thought I'd check with y'all. What should I be looking for, besides age/condition of batteries and obvious rust?
I'd like to have a running cart that I can upgrade over time. Right now I just need to get materiel (dirt, fertilizer and gravel) up the hill beside our house (20% grade/dirt path). Thanks. I've included some pics: |

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
what are they asking for it??? Another thing to look into is what kind of shape are the batteries in. That can get costly$$$ Does it run and for how long?? Also consider just how big of a project you're willing to take on.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
Looks alright for the right price. The spray painted rims would be a good place to start droppin the price:) Good luck.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
Asking $400. Says batteries "have about 50% life left". No idea what that means. I figured new batteries and cables would be first on the list to replace.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
I don't know what the prices are like around you, but around here $400 for a working buggy with batteries, is a good deal. Plus I would offer less and see if they take it.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
I can't tell you the exact age of that Marathon cart but from the pictures it most likely is an older resistor cart. Unless you are just wanting the body to start a build with I would steer clear. You would have to replace almost everything to be able to use it the way you want.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
I guess the question is, would any 36 volt cart be able to haul materiel up a 20% grade without modification?

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
I was able to carry three passengers up a much steeper incline with a 36 volt stock series TXT. However, I also managed to melt two solenoids by doing it way too often. There's really no way to answer definitively, as it depends on how heavy the load is, how heavy you are, how heavy your passenger is, how tired your batteries are, how long the climb is, etc. Allowing things to cool off after a hard climb will help.

Re: Marathon Purchase Questions
I have been hauling dirt with mine for a few months out of a very deep pit my neighbor has. My little 36 volt marathon does just as good with a load as my atv with a trailer. It will do it bro. So did ya buy it or not????
