Not a big deal, just about any automatic 36v charger with proper male plug installed on the cord to mate with the cart and you are in business..Dave

If you are looking for a new one, IMO these are the best units out there and reasonably priced: DPI Accusense Charger
It switches to a float charge mode after the regular charge cycle, so your battery pack stays fully charged as long as the charger is attached.

I'd steer clear of new or used Powerwise QE and Delta-Q chargers, but the older Powerwise, Powerwise+ and Powerwise II are okay.
Older Totalcharge and Lester are also good units are also okay.

If you find a used charger, post what it is and we'll give it a or a

Just an added note, most all chargers have to have a minimum batt pack voltage to get the charger on,somewhere around 30 volts I believe,if Dads pack is totally dead ????Many times I have customers who think there is a problem with their charger, when actually the batt pack is too far gone to kick it on..This may not pertain but thought I'd mention it.Dave

JohnnieB,
I have a couple of the delta-q chargers. I was under the impression they were one of the best when I bought them a couple years ago. Can you give me the advantages(if any)and disadvantages? I was planning to mount it in the cart so that I could have an 'on-board' charger.

Thanks

My disdain for Delta-Q is guilt through association.
They build the Powerwise QE for EZGO, which has a less than stellar reputation for service life and are non-repairable.

An advantage for the Delta-Q QuiQ charger is multiple charge algorithms, which is also a disadvantage if the wrong one is selected, since your battery pack may not be charged correctly and from what I can tell, figuring out which algorithm to use is not obvious to a layman user and changing between algorithms is a complex process.

Some, but not all, of the algorithms use Dv/Dt criteria to terminate the charge instead of a predetermined voltage.

It appears that a new charge is initiated if the batteries drop below 2.1VPC (about 88% SoC), or 30 days has elapsed, however, I prefer float charging since the batteries are not allowed to sit in a partially discharged state, and anything less than 100% SoC is partially discharged.

I like the ability to closely control the charging parameters afforded by high frequency and SCR type output stages, but I'm not very fond of using a switching power supply type input stage.

Basically, I prefer a charger with multiple, easy to change, charging algorithms, with a microprocessor controlled output stage and step-down transformer input stage that uses Dv/Dt to terminate charge and goes into a float charge mode after the regular charge is completed. And is user repairable, at least at the board swap level.

--------------
If I had a Delta-Q charger that had been providing satisfactory service for a year or more, and needed an on-board charger, I would install it on my cart.

If I wanted an on-board charger and had to buy one, I'd go for one the had a step-down transformer input stage.
Perhaps something like this: http://quickcharge.com/select-a-charge-on-boards.html
