Default Don't know if my rear end is in right

I'm new to the golf cart world. I just got a 1983 36 volt ez go it has a custom lift with atv tires on it. My problem is on flat ground it runs out good but when you hit a hill it slows drastically. It pulls hill very good in reverse I was just wondering if the rear end could have been put back in wrong. The motor is sitting on the passengers side of the axle

Welcome to BGW 83. You have come to the right place to get answers, but before you get answers you are probably going to have to give more info.

Can you let us know what your make, model, and serial number is? There are sticky posts at the top of this thread where you will find how to get the info needed. Plus you may find service and parts manuals.

I want to know what your battery pack voltage is after a full charge has settled. That means the charge has had time to sink in and rest for 12 hours without the charger hooked up.

I rebuilt my rearend and put in different gears so I'm pretty familiar with all that is in it. I would question all the bearings and want to know if any of them give you unusual noises. The only way to troubleshoot this is to put the rear end up on jack stands and spin the tires. Yes you can put the rear end up and just give foot pedal juice to the motor and listen. That will give you some observance of unusual noises but I would also want to split the motor off and check the rearend without the motor installed.

That is checking the rearend question you had. My better long distance guess is your F-N-R circuit has a bad contact in the forward position.

In summery, your F-N-R is going downhill. Hopefully others will chime in and either confirm or condemn my observations.

My recommendations to correct a bad F-N-R is to buy a new one from ScottyB. He may be one of the most trusted suppliers for any and all of the readers here. Find his stuff here http://www.cartsunlimited.net/

Your cart has a few years and miles on it, I'm sure we can help you getting it to where it was. Or even make it better, if you dare.

God bless and best regards

The motor be either pointing straight towards the rear or it is on the right side. it is possible the axle is flipped but that would also mean the person who did it also changed all the cables appropriately so reverse and forward worked properly. I don't see why anyone would do that unless they were crazy.

Is motor parallel or perpendicular to axle?

I take it his motor is of the newer version. He said it's on the right side.

Everything is relative from a rear spot. We are speaking of the centerline of the cart. Your motor is 90 degrees pointing to the right.
