more Speed
I have a 2007 Western Elegante on a 2006 EZGO chassis with 42 volts. It has an obvious governor set at 25 MPH. Is there a way to change that to get a little more speed.

Re: more Speed
What is an obvious governor? Most electric carts only get their last couple mph slowly over a long stretch. Does your race up to 25 and then just stop?

Re: more Speed
Sounds like a regenerative drive system, aka PDS. Is there a Run/Tow toggle switch on the controller cover? Also, do you select F/R with an electronic switch or a mechanical lever?

Re: more Speed
The speed limiting and overspeed braking sounds like you have a Sepex (Shunt wound) motor and a PDS style controller, but I'm not sure which one it is.
I'm installing an Alltrax DCX400 controller, which does not limit motor RPM, in a 2008 PDS and adding a seventh battery for 42V, and anticipating 25+ MPH with stock differential gears (12.44:1) on 18.3" tires. The Western is heavier, so it will slow down more going uphill, but top speed on flat land should be about the same. Please post a picture of the controller so we can figure out what you've got. |

Re: more Speed
Typically these carts were fitted with a 400amp Curtis and high speed motor.

Re: more Speed
I get 19mph top speed in my old CCDS and have "villagers" passing me all the time. Then recently, I noticed many of them getting tickets. I believe top speed allowed for our "unregistered" golf carts in The Villages is about 20mph. Have you heard anything about that? I am going to try to squeeze 21-22mph our of mine eventually, and will be satisfied. I would love to go faster, but don't want one of those $250 fines that they are handing out. Of course, some folks have tagged golf carts too. They are allowed to go faster on the roads in their LSV's. Of course, I am new to The Villages, so I am just speculating.

Re: more Speed
Yes to both. I found the run/tow under the seat and yest the f/r is controlled on the dash by a simple fwd rev switch
