Default is this a good deal on batteries

I have trojans in the cart now. They were used when I got it and have lasted over 5 years, so I think I got my moneys worth. I have figured out a way to get autocraft 6 volt golf cart batteries for $456.00 when the normal retail price is $696.00. Reviews all look positive on the website. I guess I can get 2 sets of the autocraft for the price of trojans $810. So do you guys think since the deal is so low it is worth the risk to change brands.

The old saying holds true YOU GET WHAT YOU PAYED FOR , make sure to compare weight , not all batteries are made the same ! My 2cents worth stick with Crowns or Trojans esp with Batts do not cheap out you will regret it.

Cheers !

Welcome to BGW!

Which Autocraft golf cart batteries?

The Autocraft GC2 is only 115AH, which is about half of what is typically used in 36V golf carts ( IE: Trojan T-105 is 225AH)

At the list price ($690) it is a P. T. Barnum deal (There is a sucker born every minute)
At the discounted price ($456) it is close to a break even deal. IF ---- repeat ---- IF you can accept only having half the run-time and live with reduced cart performance.

The projected life expectancy with proper battery maintenance for various batteries:
Autocraft GC2 (115AH) = about 2.98 years or annual cost of $153.22
Trojan T-605 (210AH) = about 5.32 years or annual cost of $152.19
Trojan T105 (225AH) = about 5.60 years or annual cost of $144.74

Note-1: The life expectancy of the Autocraft GC2 might be overly optimistic, the Amp Hours ratings my spreadsheets are based on, don't go that low.
Note-2: I'm not sure which Trojan battery was available for $810 per six, so I include both their standard and economy 6V offerings.

The GC2 is the one I found. I just thought the $40 off per battery coupon I have would be ok. I guess they are not all created equal.

Humm? I just bought 5 of those for $75 each to replace some dead ones in a project cart.

(Novice first post here btw.)

Great sight!

I live in Delaware, we don't have as many options for many things. We have a low poputation, which keeps many retailers from selling here. Those batteries are $116.00 here and I have a $40 off coupon.

You've got that right!!!

Some brands may be better than others, but in general terms, there are more differences in different grades within the same brand than there are differences between the same grade in different brands.

Attached is a far less than all-inclusive list of different 6V battery grades for a half dozen or so different brands that are commonly found in golf carts.
Some brands have five grades, other brands have fewer.

The trick is to select the highest grade (AH rating) you budget will allow and then search for the best price to be found in your local area for that grade.
(Making adjustments and compromises as needed. )

Expand the scope of your search beyond the obvious sources of batteries. (IE: I ended up special ordering Exide GC-145 (245AH) through a tractor supply store.)

If a brand available in your area isn't on the list, just pick one on the list with a similar AH rating to see where it stacks up in the overall scheme of things.
That is Amp-Hours at the 20 Hour rate - there are AH ratings at other hourly rates, so read the specs carefully.

Not really hi-jacking the thread I hope. I have a 2000 EZ Go. What kind beyond that I am not sure. F/W is by the drivers right leg with a tow/run switch on top of the black box under the seat on the passenger side.

I purchased some sort of Interstate made batteries from Sams a couple of summers ago (this summer should be 3 years I believe). I tried to follow the break in instructions on here. I drive the cart once/twice a week to play golf. Charger is an EZ GO powerwise I believe.

In the beginning I could get 36 holes pretty easy (2 golfers, 2 bags). Here lately it struggles to get 27 holes and the motor seems to start dragging. I have to "feather" the throttle to get it to go.

Is this normal for these batteries in regards to life expectancy? I keep the maintenance up pretty good. 4 g cable wires on all batteries, but stock everywhere else.
Thanks for the help in advance.
