Default Rusted frame

98 Freedom

16 inches of rectangular tube frame rail is rusted out. This is located directly behind the front wheel. The end of this piece is open and there are no drain holes in the frame. Is this a common EZGO problem?

Well I can tell you, my 2000 ezgo series TXT suffers the same fate. I found a few dealers that would sell me a frame for 350 - 450$. Mines been welded a few times already.
Good luck!

Rust is always a problem, just cut out the rusted area and weld in new,a lot cheaper than buying new frame

Get a piece of tubing the same size and thickness.Cut the area out, grind a nice bevel on the rail and the replacement-piece.Butt-weld the section in.Then get some flat-bar the same size as the height of the rail, and one size thicker if possible, make 2 Fish-Plates that are about 6-8" long and look like this <=> .Center the plate over the weld-joint,and fully weld it except on the small vertical end of the points at the end of the plates(when you make the plates, leave about 1/2" vertical between the top and bottom tapers).Hope this helps.

I know how to fix it. I wondered if it was a built in problem llike the battery cradles.
