EZ-GO 1988 Marathon (??) 3-Wheel
Hi everyone,
Been working to update the wiring on 1988 3-wheel marathon (I think). Most of the wiring was out of it when I got it. I used the wiring diagrams on the sticky pages and those helped a great deal. Now here is the problem. I have reverse, but no forward. I've been checking the microswitches and I think one may be fried, but it appears that it does nothing but turn the backup buzzer on and off. I believe the second MS on the forward/reverse switch is the one that controls the direction in conjunction with the contacts....but I am baffed. Any suggestions? |

Re: EZ-GO 1988 Marathon (??) 3-Wheel
I think I may have answered my own question...
I believe I may have wired the MS up opposite... I had the buzzer hooked to the one that fit into the cam with two notches, the other MS was on the cam with only a single notch. Going to swap them now to confirm.... Anyone care to chime in on how much of a gumbah I am ? |

That was it...at least partially.
The MS for the buzzer got fried (that would explain the smoke :-). So I moved the other MS over to the other side and wired it appropriately. I am now getting a click on the solonoid and motor running in reverse. As well as solonoid click in forward, but no motor. I suspect now it is a contact in the Forward/Reverse switch that need to be cleaned, since the solonoid is getting voltage. Live and learn, right? By the way...I am getting some bluish arcing on the speed control board from the brush and contacts as I apply the accelerator. Anything to be concerned about? Is that normal for this type of older cart? I will take some newer pics soon, but here are some of the original state of the cart a couple of months ago. |

The boys and I have had fun working on this project for grandma, but I've spent far more money on this than it is probably worth ;-(

Arcing is never good. I'd check the wiper arm and the contacts in the board. Unless you find and correct the arcing it will likely lead to more $$ spent.
Spending too much is very easy to do! This I know! |
