Thanks so much for all input. Pggroves- thanks for the very helpful diagram.

Scottyb-great feedback. Don't worry, I've got no feelings for this thing yet. Though I did have it running prior to transport. The box houses the resister coils. I'm guilty on cables (You should of seen what was in there when I got it) 'Braided cables' are coated w/ heavy clear vinyl- got em at Advance Auto. Invoice states, '2Ga battery cable w/ Limited lifetime warranty'. Do you think they're o.k if I make them short as possible?

Hear ya'll loud and clear on 12V batteries. I'll replace them later... The cart is for my skinny 11 yr.old daughter to run to and fro her Grandparents and cousins, short distance (< 1/4 country mi.)

I'm with ya on saving $$. F&R looks rusty. Just make sure all the connections are clean and tight before sending her off on her own. You might enjoy our poorboy cart thread. Where members show how much they could do without dumping alot of $ into their carts.....
