Default Trojan batteries

Ok so I bought a 95 ezgo April 20 2013. The 6 trojan batteries i was told were brand new. I bought the digital monitor from ScottyB to keep up with battery status. I never allowed them to go below 75% before charging them. Now after charging them all night I can't get it over 37.2.

i tested them and i have two batteries reading on the high side of "low" on a hydrometer. The other 4 are at the high side of "fair" None of the 6 are in "good" just 11 months later.

I looked at the date on the positive terminal and it is E2, which means May 2012 (very seriously doubt 2002). Question is, how long do batteries sit and still be considered "new"? In my case it's 11 months.

Is this normal? I was given a 1 yr warranty.

I can't help with how long batteries may sit before they are installed and warranty issues, but maybe I can shed some light on some technical issues.

I suspect your hydrometer is designed for SLI (Start-Lights-Ignition) type automobile batteries, which use a different acid concentration than the deep cycle batteries used in golf carts. So the multicolored (Good/Fair/Weak/Bad or whatever) scales may not reflect a true picture of battery health, but should provide a relative comparison between cells.

Also, the Specific Gravity has to be adjusted for the temperature of the electrolyte to get a true reading. Add 4 points (0.004) for each 10°F above 80°F and subtract 4 points of each 10° below 80°F.

------------
How often do you recharge the batteries? (They should be recharged after each use, no matter how slight.)

------------

The batteries will only charge to 37.2. (75% SoC)
How are the electrolyte levels?
What are the individual battery voltages?
Are two of the batteries tapped to run 12V accessories?
What charger are you using?

---------------

You might be able to improve your battery pack's storage capacity be repeatedly charging without any discharges, or just minimal discharges.

When I got my cart, the T-105 batteries in my cart were about 18 months old and would only charge to 85% SoC (37.6V) and after working with them for about two months, they would charge to about 98%Soc (38.1V).

No guarantee you'll get the same results, but it is worth giving it a try.

Thank you Johnnie B for the response.

Okay I will go with your advice. I have never allowed the battery level to get below 80%.

All cells were VERY consitent (within the same battery) in their readings

My biggest issue was with the warranty. I bought the cart in April with a full year warranty, and if the batteries are having an issue I wanted to use my warranty before it was too late.

The batteries read E2. That should be May 2002 or May 2012. The problem is I purchased the cart (with what I was told new batteries in it) in April 2012. Seems like it would be difficult to buy a set May 2012 in April 2012.

I just want to make the correct decision regarding them. My 1 yr warranty runs up on April 20 2013.

1. How do I check the electrolyte levels?
2. I have a guage meter but it has a bunch of settings, what should it be on to check the individual battery voltages?
3. Yes I have lights hooked up (of course they are hooked to the weakest 2)
4. Not sure about the charger, will check

Creating a weal pair with a 12v draw is bad for the whole pack. Consider a DC > DC reducer for extended battery life. I believe Trojan offers an 18 month warranty on all their batteries you just need to get the dealer to honor it. Go to Trojan if he won't. (if needed)

Ok I will get a reducer,

Now, what about about the E2?

And opinions, after 11 months of care should I be having these problems? Should I try to return them?

There was some research done here awhile back about how/when Trojan stamps their batteries. As I recall they were stamped with a future date to allow for shipping etc. The last set I bought were stamped G9 (july 09) but I actually bought them in late June 09. I watched the dealer load them directly from the shipping pallet to my truck. So I think it is likely your batteries were actually very fresh and not 11 months old. My opinion anyway.

Kernal is right there is some forward reaching when stamping batteries but, they are stamped when the acid is added which activates the cells and begins their life cycle. We all know lead acid batteries do not like to be left in a state of discharge and in the case of batteries left on the shelf for 11 months I suspect some compromise of health. I would go to the dealer with your concerns and ask them about this before the warranty is up.

1. How do I check the electrolyte levels?
Check out this web page.http://www.trojanbattery.com/Battery...ngDiagram.aspx

2. I have a guage meter but it has a bunch of settings, what should it be on to check the individual battery voltages?
Set to DC volts and select the 10V range (or something like it)

3. Yes I have lights hooked up (of course they are hooked to the weakest 2) It is best to use a DC-DC converter or install a separate 12V battery for accessories.
You can charge those two batteries with a 12v charger to bring up their voltage to the level of the others.

4. Not sure about the charger, will check

I'd try to work out something with the cart dealer or Trojan and if that wasn't successful, I'd give the charging the living daylights out of them routine a try.

Good Luck.

Good to hear. I believe what Kernal said to be true.

They were purchased April 20 2012

So I can see them being stamped May 2012

Great advice. I am gonna talk to the dealer and Trojan.

As far as charging the 2 with a 12 volt charger,,,I should disconnect them from the other 4. Then how do I connect the 2 together?
Positive to negative 1 battery to the next (only with 2)? Basically connect 1 positive to 1 negative, with an open positive and open negative on each? Then connect my 12 volt charger up to one of them?
