and the fun begins
so i have had my ezgo cart for 1 week now so i guess it's time to start having problems. UN-FREAKIN-BELIEV-ABLE! my cart will not go forward or reverse. the "battery meter" on the dash is all the way to zero (no reading).
here's the deal. by the meter, 6 volts on every battery but only reading 3.6-3.8 volts when i test the main + and the main - before they go into the controller. WTH could be the problem? thanks in advance. shrp |

Re: and the fun begins
sounds like it could be something simple... but you need to give a lil more info about the cart.. What yr,make, drive system, was it running fine until this happened?

Re: and the fun begins
Thanks... Did you check ALL connections on the cart including the wires going to the motor? How old are the batts on the cart? I would wiggle, check and pull on every connection on the cart. do you know how old the cables are?

Re: and the fun begins
the batteries are trojan 605's < 2 years old. the only things i have checked are the voltage on each individual batteries respective + and - post and each came out to 6 volts. i also check the + on battery 1 and the - on battery 6 where each wire goes to the controller (if that makes sense) to get an overall "battery pack" reading and that only measures 3.6-3.8v. i would imagine that is supposed to measure around 36v with a good charge. is that a safe assumption. i do have a battery charge indicator and it is showing zero charge or no measurable voltage. thanks in advance.

Re: and the fun begins
does the cart have a toggle switch? it sounds like there is some kind of breakdown in the loop!! when you put it in reverse is the beeper sounding?

Re: and the fun begins
man am i paranoid. i hate not knowing about things. i found the problem. the back post of the 4 battery (under the edge of the body) was loose. as soon as i grabbed it, i saw the meter shoot to full charge. couple turns of the wrench and it's working again. thanks a bunch for the help.
a follow up question, will those cables work loose like that regularly? shrp |

lol... not a problem... the guys on this forum have helped me a bunch... I am just trying to keep the good deeds going.. glad it worked out well for ya.. I have had my cart for yrs. I have faced the same thing... keep on trucking...
not sure how familiar you are with the carts.. but i would upgrade the cables to a 4 gauge.. it will blow your mind how much they will help.. |

Re: and the fun begins
btw.. as far as the cables working loose... I had that problem and an old mechanic friend of mine told me to double nut them and it would take care of them.. i did that in 2008 and have never had one work loose on me... I think they are 9/16.. grab a dozen of those and it should cure the problem for you. The real good news is.... the entire problem is a cheap fix...

Re: and the fun begins
great tip. i'll definitely have to do that. i actually called our local electrical store to price out putting the 2ga cables on it. he actually was telling me there wasn't enough difference in the 2ga vs. the 4ga to justify the additional cost. thanks again for the help.
