Default 83 has second solenoid and switch - any ideas??

I've been reading through this awesome blog and gaining some valuable information from all the experts. I have a couple of questions concerning what I now believe is a 1983 Marathon EZGO 36 Volt.

1. There is a second pull switch (like the headlight switch) mounted to the right of the light switch. It is wired to a second solenoid mounted under the passenger seat. The main posts from the solenoid are connected to the two center terminals on the motor. the far right terminal (passenger side) is marked A1. The next terminal is unmarked. The third terminal is marked A2 and the forth terminal is unmarked. After looking at the wiring diagram I am assuming that the terminal between A1 and A2 is S2??

The solenoid wires basically jump A2 and S2 together. Pulling or pushing in the switch while crusing seems to do nothing. I am assuming that the solenoid is bad.

What does jumping A2 and S2 on the motor suppose to do? Is this someones "add-on" modification?

2. The cart has suddenly stopped while driving. After playing with the forward and reverse switch it started moving again. It has happened a couple of times. I am assuming that I have a flakey switch. Should I replace the whole F&R switch assy or just the two micro switches?

3. I have a chance to buy a 2006 star electric cart. I've searched the net for info and haven't found much of anything Any recommendations out there?

Thanks

Welcome to BGW

I believe what you are looking at is a shunt. It is a quick and dirty way to gain power but at the expense of burning up your armature. If you want your motor to last a while you should find a diagram and wire it back to stock. A shunt is not a good way to gain power.

Sounds like you need to check out the F/R contacts....maybe give them a good filing.

A star cart is similar to an ezgo....so similar some parts are interchangable. I think it's a chinese knockoff but I cant say for sure.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll remove the second solenoid to prevent further damage.

I will also try cleaning up the F&R switches
