Default first mod to my txt & a feedback ?

hey all,

as small as it is, i am making the 1st modification to my ezgo today. i will be adding a clays basket (told you, not that impressive) but i believe it's a start to an ongoing trend.

i'll post the before and after for those that care about baby-steps.

as far as feedback, i have been inquiring about initial performance upgrades and i think i have settled on the following. what realistic performance increase can i expect (torque is my primary motivator for the performance upgrades)?

-upgrade to a 400a controller (currently have a stock 275a controller)
-2ga cables (currently 6ga)
-add HD F&R switch
-modify existing cart motor to maximize performance(something about coils, brushes, etc.)

cart currently struggles substantially on any moderate grade hill. top end speed is ~15mph give or take.

As for torque, going from a 275A controller to a 400A controller will up the torque by about 45%.
However, there won't be any increase in top speed, other than what is gained by rebuilding the motor. (Unless the cables, solenoid contacts and F/R contacts are in really, really bad shape.)

Suggest you go with the 400A/1000A solenoid that Scottyb sells.
It works from 36V to 48V, so you don't have to replace it if and when you upgrade to 42V or 48V.

I'm kicking around the idea of a front basket with some removable boxes akin to gun safes secured to it, so I'm looking forward to your before, during and after pictures.

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and I launch lead in single pieces from barrels 4" or less most of the time, but we shoot at golf balls occasionally, so transporting the hardware to and from the range in a golf cart is appropriate.

i'll definitely post the pics. thanks for the insight. i would be tickled pink to realize a 45% torque gain with these upgrades. i am very seriously considering moving up just a bit in wheel/tire size to something like a 23x10.5x12 all terrain and if i get that much increase i wouldn't have any reservations doing that.

fyi, if you ever need any extra golf balls and are passing through the SC area, i have a 55 gallon drum FULL of them that would be perfect for target practice.

If your considering moving up to that size tire, with the controller only you will see almost all your gained torque go away. With a new motor you could regain some torque.

The 45% is theoretical, based on being able to send 125 more amps through the motor and doesn't take the efficiency of the motor into consideration.
What that will feel like from a "seat of your pants" perspective, is subjective.

Upping the tire height from stock to 23" will up the speed by about 25% and reduce the torque by a similar amount.
If the cart will do 15MPH @ 36V after the electrical upgrades, you should end up with a cart that will do upwards of 20MPH and have about 10% to 15% more torque than stock, give or take a 12 bore recoil or two.

-------------
I may have to take you up on the golf balls. While in college my youngest boy (he'll turn 43 this year) used to salvage them from water hazards and sell the good ones to a driving range. I ended up with a 5-Gal bucket full of ones too damaged to sell and for the last 15 years or so, I've been hanging them by a string from a T-shaped frame made out of wooden dowels. They last pretty well, but every now and then a string breaks and one goes into orbit.

ok all, first chance i've had to get online since yesterday. here are the before and after pics of the basket mount.

Before

After

while i was picking up the basket, i stumbled on to a GREAT deal on these...

WOW! what a difference a set of wheels and tires makes. so i guess this is my 1st and 2nd mods to my cart. my wife just started laughing when she pulled into the driveway while i was tightening down the last one.
