48 volts?
So I've decided to go 48 volts on my 2005 Ez Go.I have an Alltrax 400 controller,4 gauge wires,Heavy solenoid, fairly new 219ah batteries. My question is am I better off adding 2 more 6 volt batteries or buy 8 volt batteries.I have a friend that will buy my 6 volt batteries to offset the cost of the 8 volts. Will the stock motor handle 48v?What type of charger will I need?

Re: 48 volts?
Take the sale and go with the new 8v batteries. They fit in the stock tray and with little modification the stock hold down can work. They will weight almost 150# less than and be easier to maintain than the 8 six volt batteries.
If you have flatter ground and distance is your goal then the 8/6v is a better choice. |

Re: 48 volts?
Get a DPI charger from Scotty , excellent unit
And I would go with 8 - 6 volt batts for max . Range And yes the stock motor will handle 48 volts as long as you do not over tax the motor (over heat ) Cheers ! |

Re: 48 volts?
It's not the 48 volts that over heats the motor, it's the increase to a higher amperage controller. Higher voltage will make the motor turn more RPMs, but higher current, which will give you more torque, is what makes it "potentially" run hotter. Climbing hills with heavy loads puts the most strain on the motor. Most of the time, you'll be coasting some, which allows the motor to cool.
