Default Newbe here- What do I have?

Greetings to all. I'm a newbe to the forum and have learned quite a bit from my readings. Thanks!

I have a '97 EzGo TXT, 36V in the final stages of rebuild. I've done a body off refit repairing rust, rebuilding battery rack, new paint. I've only added a charge indicator, running lights front and rear and horn. Cart runs great. This leads to my question.

I'm assuming that I have stock controller and motor only because it doesn't appear that the previous owner had done any upgrades. I had the controller overheat over the weekend and melt the case. (photo 1, under the plug)!!!

Can anyone tell from the pic which controller I have (amps?) I obviously asked more than I should of the controller to cause this heat. I was pulling a trailer very SLOWLY to spray my fence line. Going forward I'd like to prevent this. Upgrade time?

This is the motor plate. Hard to read:
Electric Vehicle Powre Systems
Part # 73124G02
A95-4005A
36V
Rating- AU2500 Fleet Speed

Is this the stock motor?

What should I do to keep the controller from overheating in the future?

Thanks again for the great resource.
Tom

It looks like the stock 275 amp controller along with the stock 2 hp motor. You can try upgrading to 4 gage cables.
